Hi guys idk what to do at the moment. Im a junior and just made varsity and finally got my stunt group, and since im the 2nd shortest flyer i got put with super short bases who have never based before and cant do anything. But this is completely unfair because a senior even shorter than me got taller bases who are actually good so i just dont understand why the coaches chose age of skill and size. I'd like to consider myself to not be one of the worst flyers but its completely unfair to get put with a group that wont get any stunts. My coaches always put me with the newbies, but whenever im with good bases my coaches can see that i can hit everything so it doesnt make sense why im being set up to fail and not have a successful group. Idk if anyone will actually read this but any help would be appreciated.

I would suggest that perhaps your coaches put you with less experienced bases because you can always hit with stronger groups. Not only does this help teach the newer bases faster, as they have a flyer who knows what she is doing, but it evens out the strength throughout the entire team. As a coach, if I stack 1-2 stunt groups, the rest of the team never catches up to their level. By mixing up stronger people with less experienced people, it makes it easier for everyone to learn.

Your coaches are not likely setting you up to fail, but may in fact be setting you up to be a leader with newer teammates to help pull them up to the level of the rest of your team. And fair or not, are you cheering for you to be the centre of attention in stunts, or are you cheering cos you want to be a part of team that is all successful and learning?

Give your group a chance. Try trusting your coaches. My daughter has had bases shorter than her and they did great. As a group y'all may have to work harder to make it work, but with a positive attitude and hard work great things can happen.

Trust your coach(es).

Do you think they want you/your group to fail?
Do you think they will honestly let you fail in public?

They put you there for some reason. Work hard, push yourself and your group in a positive way. You may be surprised at how quickly those inexperienced girls can catch up.

The previous posters gave plausible reasons for the stunt group formation but no one on this board actually knows the thoughts of your coach. Trust (your coach) and verify. So, ask your coach.

Remember: coaches are never in the business of failing: they don’t want individuals to fail and they don’t want teams to fail... it goes directly against the point of coaching- so trust your coach.
Stop seeing your group as a set back and start seeing them as a set up for future success...start encouraging their victories and you will likely see a HUGE change in how quickly you guys start hitting skills together. Chemistry with your group can make or break how well you develop together and it’s likely they can “feel” you aren’t “thrilled” with the coaches choice to put you with them. Make them feel wanted, valued and appreciated... work hard to learn together- you’ll see amazing things happen.

My coach used to always tell me that a good flyer can fly on any bases. While your group may not be the best or most consistent at the moment, give them a chance and focus on being the best flyer you can be. They'll improve and become more consistent with time and practice. Your current flying skills are probably much better than they were when you first started flying. Eventually, you'll be able to say the same for your bases in regards to their basing skills.

Your coach probably has a reason for putting you in that group- maybe they didn’t want an inexperienced flyer paired with inexperienced bases because, well, that’s a recipe for disaster. In my experience (with both flying and basing) I’ve been put with weaker flyers/weaker bases in order to help the stunt be successful (and it was the other way around when i was first learning!) Just be flexible and don’t get frustrated. If the season continues and there are still issues that aren’t showing signs of being fixed your coach will probably move you. As a flyer (and any other position, honestly) you need to be able to work with a variety of different people to make a stunt work.

Have Faith in your group. Theyvare capable but probably need work. Meet after school and at someones home. Youtube the basics of basing and the more You work together and trust each other, the better your group will get. Good LUCK!
