$23million for 965 acres sounds like a smart purchase on their part. I'd like to see which builder they team up with or acquire to build all those homes...

The Town of Celebration was land purchased and developed by Disney so when they say a "rival" community it's a little misleading.

The majority of the land they bought is wetlands with piping stipulations for water supply so it's not going to be anything substantial like a new park or anything.

I think I read though that they sold their ownership of it (Celebration). They did start another community Golden Oaks but it does not have the retail portion like celebration and is definitely a high price point. It could be that they plan to try another community similar to Celebration but keep ownership this time and focus more on homes than creating a town??? Just a guess

That's what I'm hoping. They originally built those homes, so their employees could have affordable housing, but it didn't take long for the first owners to sell and make a huge profit.

ooooo yes more overpriced homes to add to the already over saturated market of overpriced homes in orlando....
I do get some people are Disney OBSESSED, but i truly dont get the allure of living in that traffic nightmare 24/7.

Compared to some places that traffic down there is nothing. But with all this building it will get worse. I always laugh at my dad when we go down and he complains about the traffic there (he lived up in our area for over 20 years). We live up in the DC area. The Beltway and and 95 have been horrid for years, but now even smaller roads in suburbs are being turned into "parkways" to improve flow as people move further and further out trying to find nice and affordable housing. We have a major interchange being created by our house to help with flow on roads that used to be like 2 lanes each way. Since my kids have been alive they have changed that area 2 times trying to reduce cross county traffics. We had to drive to our original gym location last year... like 45 miles away... took 2 1/2 hours we gave ourselves 3.

oh yeah i know, my parents live in atlanta and i wouldnt want to live there for sheer fact that traffic is WAY worse. But growing up in the area ive lived in my entire live, orlando has grown SO MUCH, traffic never use to be an issue in some areas and now its hell. The tourist areas have always been bad, but they are way worse then they were 10 years ago.
But i still dont get the allure of living next to disney, you are paying out the a** for something all due to location when you could find something much bigger and cheaper outside of the celebration area. A lot of people like to justify why, but as a native of orlando i just wont ever get it i guess.
