I would love to hear how your gym handles Team fundraising. How big is your gym/team?

1. Is it mandatory for every athlete to participate?

2. Is each athlete responsible for raising a certain amount?

3. If they don't raise that amount do they have to put in the difference?

4. What happens when there are those couple of families who make zero effort and everyone else works hard? Do they still benefit from monies raised?

5. What events has your gym done that has been really successful, and what events were not as lucrative as you had hoped?

We are a small gym, new team and have really struggled to get all families on board with fundraising efforts. Maybe we are doing something wrong, or maybe it is like this across the board.

How big is your gym/team? - Around 300 athletes

1. Is it mandatory for every athlete to participate? No

2. Is each athlete responsible for raising a certain amount? No

3. If they don't raise that amount do they have to put in the difference? No

4. What happens when there are those couple of families who make zero effort and everyone else works hard? They only get paid for what they earned. Not everybody at our gym is involved in fundraising.

5. What events has your gym done that has been really successful, and what events were not as lucrative as you had hoped? I personally do not fundraise, but I think our trivia night is always a huge success. I know they are selling candy bars right now and those always do well. They also do well at working concessions at MLB baseball games and at concerts at our local amphitheater. I do not know what fundraisers they have done that didn't work well.

I know most of the parents in our gym do not participate in fundraising.

5. What events has your gym done that has been really successful, and what events were not as lucrative as you had hoped? Double food popcorn, expensive but profitable if u get people to buy, we sell Christmas items also every year which I usually raise $100.

We offer some individual fundraisers that people can choose to participate or not. Some do very well and raise a lot of $$...my daughter open team have a few clinics that they get a % for helping out. Every little bit helps it amazes me that with the cost that more don’t participate.

1. Is it mandatory for every athlete to participate? - School - Yes, with 1. All the funds go towards new uniforms since the school owns them. AS - No, totally optional

2. Is each athlete responsible for raising a certain amount? School - No, though we do set a goal target. AS - No

3. If they don't raise that amount do they have to put in the difference? - No to both

4. What happens when there are those couple of families who make zero effort and everyone else works hard? Do they still benefit from monies raised? School - all money goes to uniforms, so kind of, but they don't get to keep them anyway. AS - All fundraised cash goes directly to the athlete

5. What events has your gym done that has been really successful, and what events were not as lucrative as you had hoped? School - Cookie dough. The little kids can sell a ton and people like to eat it AS - Not sure, since I don't usually participate. Bottle drives can do well in a fast amount of time too. Movie nights - sell tickets for $2 and concession sales

We are a very small gym, 1 elite team, 1 prep team and a preschool fundamentals class. We are also a non-profit gym so keep that in mind we have to follow different rules due to the 501(c)3 status.

1. Is it mandatory for every athlete to participate? Yes

2. Is each athlete responsible for raising a certain amount? In the past we have set limits but this year no limits. But even we there were limits it was “try to sell x amount”.

3. If they don't raise that amount do they have to put in the difference? No

4. What happens when there are those couple of families who make zero effort and everyone else works hard? Do they still benefit from monies raised? Everyone benefits, since we are nonprofit the money can not go to one individual. We have stressed it’s a group effort and whatever the kids don’t raise parents will have to pay the difference. Our gym fundraises/donations for music, choreography and all competition fees in order to keep costs low for parents. Parents also do not pay a monthly fee since everyone is volunteers.

5. What events has your gym done that has been really successful, and what events were not as lucrative as you had hoped? Popcorn and this auction we do in a Facebook group local to us that is basically a twist on a yard sale (people donate unwanted items we post them on the Facebook group for a week and others bid on the items). We also did well with a booth at the county fair but it was a lot of work.

Fundraising sucks, I don’t know anyone who is doing it at our gym that likes it. But everyone does it because the other option is we have to pay more and a lot of our families can’t afford it (myself included I tell my daughters all the time the only reason they get to do all star cheer is because of how the gym we are at is ran). I’ve also noticed some kids do better on some fundraisers while on others they might get nothing (I see it with my own kids as well).

1. Is it mandatory for every athlete to participate?
No, it's optional. The funds raised go directly to the athletes account. So if they don't participate, it's on them.

2. Is each athlete responsible for raising a certain amount?
Not in the past. The most recent one done in our gym the teams doing the fundraiser, each athlete was required to put in at least a $25 gift card. Some did more.

3. If they don't raise that amount do they have to put in the difference?
No because it's all for their own account.

4. What happens when there are those couple of families who make zero effort and everyone else works hard? Do they still benefit from monies raised?
Again, it's all for the athlete's account. So if they don't participate, it only affects them.

5. What events has your gym done that has been really successful, and what events were not as lucrative as you had hoped?
In the 2 seasons we have been there, we have only done a few. Sheets were one of them. Those were really successful in another gym we were at as well as at school. I'm not sure about at this gym. The most recent one we did was a gift card basket raffle. Tickets were $10 each. The baskets valued between $550-$650. Monies raised went directly to the athlete's account. The teams were doing it to raise money for Summit. It was a very successful event.

No.

2. Is each athlete responsible for raising a certain amount?
No, like others anything raised goes directly to their account.

3. If they don't raise that amount do they have to put in the difference?
No.

4. What happens when there are those couple of families who make zero effort and everyone else works hard? Do they still benefit from monies raised?
Fundraisers all go to athletes' individual accounts so it doesn't make a difference.

5. What events has your gym done that has been really successful, and what events were not as lucrative as you had hoped?
Sheets, Blue & Gold (Oklahoma sausage, chicken, and bacon that people go crazy for but has a small profit), used to do popcorn but didn't this year. We always sold lots of popcorn so I wish they'd pick that one up again.

I think it is like this across the board. We are a large gym, four prep teams, I think nine non worlds AS teams and one worlds team. Some fundraisers have less than ten families participating. Others have a lot more. Fundraising in school also does not seem to have a lot of participation.
