Does your gym do a big send-off or something special the night before they leave? If so, what do you do? Looking for fun ideas for our girls (youth team) going to Summit for the first time. They are getting new practice uniforms who their coaches will surprise them with but we (moms) would like to do some other fun things as well.

Yes, after the Summit send-off showcase, they get swag. Last year's swag consisted of custom Mickey ears that pertained to team. All Summit teams got the same Adidas slides. They got a sling backpack that had Summit, athlete's name and year. Also ordered the Yeti-styled cups from RTIC in bulk and someone cut vinyl and put Summit 2018 and Athlete's name and team. The cup was most of their favorite. Baseball hats printed with team name went in bag, too.

Good luck and enjoy the Summit. Youth were some of my favorite years

I wish I still had the video. When my CP was on Sirens (Fame) the first year they got the bid to summit, the team mom went ALL OUT (she went all out the 2nd year too but she definitely set the bar for other teams). We had a team fund that everyone contributed to at the beginning of the season. She did a gift for each big comp and a REALLY BIG bag for Summit. In that bag was all of their personalized practice wear (not for each girl but for summit itself so everything had summit written on it), sunglasses, sunblock, headbands, water bottle, oakley backpacks with the team named blinged out, bag tags, custom mickey ears that matched their comp bow, etc.) So much stuff. And it was fairly inexpensive! (amazon prime, other retail sites that sell in bulk) But we were lucky and had a mom who also made shirts so it cut costs some. Each team did their own thing but every team got the same practice wear.

WOW!!! Doubt we can afford to go that big- I'm guessing they won;t want to spend more than $25/girl!

How much it costs depends a lot on how crafty your parents are. A new tank/shorts isn’t that much if you have moms with vinyl cutters and heat presses. A dad with a good shop can do door signs out of plywood or foam board that can be decorated with vinyl (we had one team have goat shaped ones for UCA-one if th girls is hand raising a kid, and the team has adopted the little animal as their mascot). Dollar Stores have lots of stuff that can be customized. And don’t forget to see if parents are planning anything before you buy stuff as the team. I had bracelets done for CP’s team for either Summit or the end of season banquet before the first competition :).

You have to be creative! A LOT of the stuff was donated by supporters, parents and friends. Our budget for the entire season was $60 a kid. We got all of that with that budget. Ask local companies to sponsor them. Write a very heartfelt letter asking for help.

An easy cheap thing that my teams did were each girl gets a balloon and writes her fears on one side, and her goals on the other. Then we played a song like The Climb by Miley Cyrus and whenever each girl was ready, they released our fears/dreams to whatever each athlete believed was a higher power. Let the anxiety out of our control, and let everyone had a quiet moment to bond with their teammates. Everyone normally stayed quiet until the end of the song and it normally ends in a big hug with lots of happy tears :)
