Hi ya'll!

I know we've got a thread going about NHSCC 2019 but it's been a bit dead and, now that the event is over, I wanted to start a fresh thread to recap! I'll be writing some post-event content that will cover performances, results, and commentary on what worked and what didn't. If you're a cheerleader, coach, parent, spectator, judge, choreographer - anyone who was there - it would be awesome if you shared your thoughts on the following:

1) Best performances/routines (from all levels - Varsity, JV, Rec, Gameday, etc)

2) Big moments from the weekend (your favorites, anything shocking/surprising/newsworthy)

3) What worked and what didn't (but let's keep it event-specific and focused on the arenas/WWOS and not flight/hotel etc)

4) Anything else you want to share! If you've got pictures, videos, action shots, celebration photos, etc that you want to post here please do so. I won't use anything you share without contacting you for permission :)

-The whole CA video thing was interesting... but was the best that anyone could do.

-need way more food options

-STILL MISS the tents

-schedule ran very well and pretty much on time.

-liked announcements of who’s moving on in Champions Stadium, TOTALY redirected traffic.

-really wanted to see LOSAL win but Boone was great.

-missing GreenUp in top 3, excited they have young team

-Pikeville was a huge upset... can’t wait to see what they nail next year.

I don’t know that they need more food options as much as they need to find a way to get the options more accessible.

There were plenty of trucks in “the pit,” but since no one is down there for the tents, no one was walking down there to eat. I may have just missed it because of our performance times, but I didn’t even really see that many teams down there practicing compared to years past. If those trucks were parked near the sidewalk coming into the event, they’d make a fortune.

United in SL was a huge upset too. They’re usually ALWAYS in top three. The fact that they didn’t get out of prelims was shocking. They got scared after their elites fell and I’ve never seen fear spread so quickly across the floor mid-performance like that. Hard to watch :(

But good to see Westlake bounce back after their rough year last year.

Gameday = Subjective... Not saying that the teams in the finals didn't deserve to be there, but I feel like it put the "I like this better" back into cheer. Hard to score and judge. Tenths were separating teams and I noticed performance order played a role in it. Reminds me of back in the day.

Arena moved much better... only a few times I was annoyed.. I feel like there needs to be a second set of doors on the opposite side as an exit - just would make everything flow better.. still got slightly chaotic in the entry lobby. Athlete check in, much more smooth.

Deduction sheets took forever in ALL arenas, 30+ minutes... UGH

The nature of Gameday lends itself to being subjective. I agree with your assessment, though: we were 7 places but only 1.3 points from advancing. Hard to make that sell to your teams.

I had no issues with getting deduction sheets in Visa or the Fieldhouse.

Yeah I agree, we were .6 from advancing, 13th, took 10 which is fair... just a tough sell, as you mentioned, but may as well go for both, it's worth it in my opinion.

I also felt this same way. The later in the division you went, the better the chance of moving on. You might can say that for a lot of divisions, but gameday was fairly obvious.

Side note: (and I'm super late to the party. First time on the boards this year.) Did anyone else see the massive camera crews following Dunbar around? We warmed up behind them in Visa with a full camera/production/boom crew in tow. It was more than just the varsity cameras, it was multiple actual tv cameras. Hoping for a follow up to the lifetime series years ago. Anyone hear or know anything about an upcoming series?

Lifetime is making a new show following Dunbar and Ole Miss. Here’s more info-

Ole Miss cheerleading coach Ryan OConnor set to star in new Lifetime reality show - Red Cup Rebellion

Oh yea, this was going on at Bluegrass when they qualified too. Hope it was just for this season. It’s a huge PIA.
