Are they doing anything about the trans hate that seems endemic on Beatles? I don't know if AS teams can/will cut for social media bullying (some could argue that's their "personal life" and thus not grounds for cutting), but it seems like that's where they need to start. It's never okay to bully your own teammate. Or bully, period.

I don't know everyone's feelings about trans athletes. I'm not here to discuss that. But my bottom line is that their coach put the athlete in question on the team -- a team that just won Worlds with her help -- and her teammates need to respect that. It's so gross to me that instead of enjoying their victory, they're instead eager to indulge their uneducated ideology that they've seemingly been fostering all year. Lots of kids could've taken being put on a team with a trans athlete as an opportunity to learn and change their worldview, but the perpetrators in this situation seem eager to hang onto their ignorance and hate. And for what? Do they think they're right in this situation? In the HISTORY OF THE WORLD, have the people who've persecuted another group of people ever come out looking like the heroes?

Sheesh.

That being said, a part of me feels bad for the gym at large and the uninvolved athletes on Beatles. Just as they get over their questionable reputation, a few bad apples on Beatles set the place up in flames again.

So are they doing anything about this or are they just going to release a statement saying they don't tolerate bullying and then put the exact same bigots on the team again? What would your program do?

I pulled my daughter out of her gym over bullying that wasn't being handled...in other words, blindly ignored. So what would our program have done? Nothing. What would I do? Pulled her back out.

I don't know all of the details surrounding this situation, but my heart goes out to that athlete who should be treated with the same respect as anyone else.

Wait, what happened?

ETA: the linked tweet below is super profane but was the only one I could find that contained the messages.

It came out recently that Rockstar athletes were bullying their transgender female teammate via anonymous social media messages that were made public. Then one teammate in particular admitted to the messages, then basically said “Oops nm lol” when he faced the backlash. Then it came out that basically this team has been awful to her for some time (which I don’t know if that’s true, but I do know that only one of her teammates has apologized for the others’ behavior). Then of course Rockstar put out an offical statement saying that they don’t tolerate bullying whatever whatever etc., but it’s left a lot of people wondering wth is going on at that gym.

Here’s a rundown. It’s from an anon account, but it’s accurate.

I think I may have seen this addressed on Rockstar's official accounts - I want to believe that her actual teammates did not post that and that it's just some random trying to get attention? Sad.

I think she said it was a filter or something on Snapchat (I never used it so I don’t know) that allows tour messages to come anonymously, but she knew who sent them. All of her teammates how have comment on social media have all made excuses for one of the accused and never apologized to their transgender teammate. One pretty much throw it out there that their was bullying but nothing was done.

I’ve been following this and it didn’t surprise me. Outside of them winning this year everything I have every seen about Beatles have been negative.

eTA: it also doesn’t help that they are still on probation. I really thought their coach/owner was “suspended” for two years from coaching but he stated he will be back this season coaching 6 teams.

The app is called Yolo.

The whole situation is so incredibly unfortunate, the teammate in question is a word I cannot say on this forum without getting banned, but I wouldn't hold my breath for Rockstar to actually do anything about it (just look at what happened with the situation with their owner getting "suspended"). It's absolutely infuriating and I doubt this is where they're finally going to step it up and do what's right. Now bear with me because I can already feel the judgement coming in - the athlete in question has been at quite a few gyms, and as terrible as it may sound, she may just want to move away from this particular one if she isn't going to be treated with respect. I understand it's not her fault that she's being treated like this, I'm not saying that AT ALL. What I am saying is the state in general is a fairly conservative, which means there will be some people who don't agree with her choices. If she wants to stick around and fight I would respect her wholeheartedly for doing so. But that shouldn't be her job, and if fighting isn't what she desires, it may be easiest for her to just gym hop again. Again, I'm not saying it's right, or blaming her in any way, I'm just saying I don't think Rockstar is going to do a dang thing about the situation and it may be better for her mental health to just walk away and find some place that truly appreciates her.

My first thought regarding finding out that this was actually said (not posted by randoms.)

If they feel like that about someone who is transgender, imagine what they have to say about the BLACK people on the team. I wonder if they are defending this?

Transphobia and racism usually go hand in hand and really once a team runs off say, the transgender individual, there is no one left to be awful to and it usually becomes "Let's be racist."

I definitely agree that the two usually go hand in hand. I also don’t think it helps that the individual is trans and I believe she maybe black, I can’t really tell. Also yes the black people well two for sure not sure how many they had/have on the team are defending this.

I know what word you are referring to and I seen post about that in the past and most recently with this situation. I agree she needs to find somewhere that is better not only mentally but emotionally better.

It's amazing that people are willing to believe everything they see on twitter. I'll say it - the accuser has a past history of causing drama every gym (I think we are at 5 now) she has left. She also has a long history of extremely poor sportsmanship on social media. I am basing that information on tweets I have seen myself over the years from the accuser, so it is not hearsay. Rockstar has a transgender who has been with their program for years and has publicly stated that she has never had any issues with staff or athletes. My daughter cheered for Rockstar and had nothing but positive experiences there. I know multiple people from the program and I fully believe that none of this has occurred the way it is being portrayed.
