Am I the only person who finds DOUBLE tuition to be suspiciously excessive?

I understand crossover fees from the comps, extra practice wear if is different, coach/choreo pay for the additional team, possible additional class if the team is required to be enrolled in it, etc.

But if this extra team is not adding on double the gym hours, double the tumbling classes, etc. why are folks being charged double tuition?
Yes, plus majority of comps are not double $$ for crossovers.

In our case it was double the practice hours. But I came to realize that this was not the norm. Like I said above, costs were one of the reasons we left. The last year my child double teamed we were paying over $500 a month in tuition. Plus another $100 a month in "coaches fees". It took looking around to realize that we were paying through the nose.

Wow! Definitely took advantage of you!

To cross over at our gym the cost is about 2/3 of the tuition of your first team (i.e. our first team is approx $3000/year but to cross over you'd pay another $2000, I think). It's very expensive. Then again, the gym really doesn't encourage crossovers, which is fine with me.

Ours doesn’t use them either, unless there is a mid season injury or something. And I am pretty sure in those instances the athlete doesn’t pay increased tuition. They *may* pay the comp fees...but again, pretty sure they don’t simply because I’ve had friends whose cps have been asked to help out and they would totally have mentioned/complained about the increased cost! :)

I have always wondered about the very large gym where athletes get put on three teams from the get-go. Does everyone just still pay one set amount regardless of the number of teams? Or does the gym increase your fee for each team? If not it seems like an unusual business model! I know they must have to at least pay for three uniforms? Do these families have a ton more discretionary income than mine, lol? Putting aside my wonderment at how an athlete with 3 teams can have the same tight team bond and culture with each team as an athlete with one, it just seems like it would be an expensive and confusing season with a lot of pieces for the parent to juggle. But hey, they are successful so it must work.

CP crossed over last year. No extra tuition but I think I paid 2900 in uniform, comp fees, choreo for the extra team. It was worth it. She'd never do it again, I couldn't survive it again either. She made straight As for the first time ever. We managed to keep her well for the whole season. 4 nights a week practice and we attend even if sick, she couldn't get sick. Couldn't get behind on schoolwork, no time to make it up. We lived every single minute of her junior year in HS double teaming, we were tired, we were cranky. She swore she was never cheering again. Don't even think about next year, mom, I'M NOT DOING IT!!

She's currently doing one team :D her senior year. The kids all came back for each other and ready to do it one last time.

When mine crossed over may moons ago, crossovers were charged the monthly tuition of the costlier team plus around an additional $15 a month. Uniform was the same. When comps charged a fee for crossovers, we had to pay that as well. But that was it.
