High School Bad Cheer Movies

I don't think so? Good cheer movies don't sell movie tix/DVDs/etc.

Unless you count the Champions League All Star Cheer doc. I watched a pretty good doc about HS cheer awhile back, it followed Southwestern in KY.

I remember that one it was the year burlington and SW were going at it for nationals. In terms of "good" cheer shows the only ones I'd say are that, the show that followed CJA, and Cheerleader Nation (and its current sequel.) Though I admit bring it on did get me to become a cheerleader and is a major guilty pleasure of mine.

Fair point. I guess I’m just looking for movies that portray cheer so badly is comical.

Someone suggested the movie Center Stage to me which is not what I was looking for but still deserves derision. For a movie about dancing, it was completely inaccurate and has not aged well. Especially the predatory gay guy character who is played for laughs. And who is somehow admitted to this top notch dance academy despite being injured.

And I don’t care what that movie says; Zoe Saldana would’ve been the prima ballerina from the start with that long body type and gorgeous bone structure. Not some short white girl with pinched features and terrible turnout.

Cheerleader U was pretty good-only the first season (following Kentucky) is available-it’s on Amazon Prime.

I actually really liked Poms, which isn’t high school cheer. It did portray a few of the high school girls as being mean, but the team spirit and connections among the seniors, and the support they got from other teams at the competition (which was more an all-star style) was pretty authentic. My CP loved it.

You mean "Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team" on CMT?
Yes-not the laughably bad, but that people think that this is what cheer is because of the show, even in a part of the country with a LOT of really good high school and college teams.

It is a bit of a misnomer. On the whole, I’d define what pro football cheerleaders do as “cheer dance” (with a few jazz turns) so to call them “cheerleaders” isn’t too egregious to me. I mean, I’ve had girls walk onto the Raiderettes with little to no dance experience. So yeah... I guess “cheer” is the right term.

Now, basketball “cheerleaders” are actual dancers. They really should be labeled as such.

I mean in spite of the name I think the DCC are pretty clear that they are an elite Pom Team. Kelli says that all time. And Pom is traditionally a part of the spirit section in school so while cheerleading is a stretch in that case I don’t think it’s a complete misnomer. But I’m also a huge fan of the show so this may be my bias talking [emoji23][emoji23]

On an unrelated DCC note- I’m pretty sure one of the DCC this year is an employee at rebel. Very exciting for her!!

Can you imagine what the dcc uniforms would look like if Rebel got ahold of them? They’d give them capes. Not for any reason. Just because, you know... capes.

Rebel already is making their secondary uniforms...those 'football uniform' atrocities they've worn for pre season are 100% rebel lmao

We haven't been able to find this season online to download, and it's killing my back to school. :( Why they won't play it on CMT Canada is beyond me. We can get a US VPN, but need the US cable account to log in, and it's not on the Canadian site. We'll keep looking though

The Secret Lives of Cheerleaders premieres tonight on lifetime. It looks bad-whether laughably or just plain horrid remains to be seen.

Lifetime offices, May 2019:

Person 1: “We need a teen drama for the back-to-school season. You know, something that ticks off all the usual boxes: bitchiness, bullying, blonde hot people, non-blonde hot people, skimpy clothing, football players. The thing is, Riverdale is already a thing so we have to differentiate it somehow if this is going to get made.”

Person 2: “All those things remind me of what Twitter tells me cheerleading is. What if we gave the actresses poms and called it a cheer movie?”

Person 1: “But there’s no cheerleading in the script.”

Person 2: “I don’t think it matters. As long as we keep highlighting the skirts, boys, and bitchiness, it’ll be accurate enough. At least that’s what 4Chan says. I can’t imagine there’s more to cheer than that.”

Person 1: “Beautiful. Let’s get it made.”

Lifetime is killing me right now... there MUST be someone in the writing department who got dumped by a cheerleader or didn’t make a team, I mean
Looking at the movie lineup since 2017-Clearly the writing department at Lifetime feels some type of way about Cheerleaders and Babysitters
