We had the local UCA regionals (which is about as tiny as an All Star competition gets-I think only 2 divisions had more than one team, and there were a lot of prep and novice teams), and I noticed a few things-the first is that I really, really like the new makeup/hair rules. A lot of the teams are either using cuffs or smaller, tailless bows, with a simple high pony, and girls who have curly hair are wearing it curly, while straight hair is straight. Many teams also have headbands or headband bows for girls with shorter hair. It looks good, but it still plays well on the mat. It also seemed like every team had at least one recognizable piece of music in their mix, and that the voiceovers tend to be more cheer-like. Almost more like the cheer section in School Cheer, except that it's happening over some other part of the routine, and I can see where, especially by later in the season, it will be easy for the spectators to jump in. I don't know if they changed the music rules, or if maybe just the people creating mixes have gotten better at finding reasonably priced clips to use.

Anyone else noticing similar stuff?

Wait what makeup and hair rules? What you described sounds good. :)
