But keep in mind you are an informed parent. Most parents think Summit is the end all, be all and would lose their minds if a gym decided not to bid chase for it.
I'm not so sure. If the gyms that make up All Star United were to boycott, I think most parents in the industry would be supportive. I think those particular gyms have a lot of influence on the industry. If CA, TG, Cali etc aren't going, then all of the sudden Summit isn't so "prestigious" to and saying "look even the mega gyms aren't going" is an easy case for a small gym to make to support their decision.
I would have preferred to put money in my gym's pocket with additional clinics and classes instead of the heavy travel and costs associated with it. Combined clinics with gyms in the area would have be so beneficial and fun (similar to an NCA camp but taught by area coaches). I grew up showing horses and we did this all the time. Trainers worked together and put on camps and clinics for all ages. I really think our gym owners could benefit from doing something similar.

I agree with this. Everything is relative. Yes an experienced parent is easier to get on board but new parents don't know the difference! It is probably the year 2 or 3 parents that would create chatter but if everyone is doing it I think they would get on board fairly easily.

A local small gym decided one year not to do Summit. Parents were furious. The next season about half of the families left and went to the other local small gym all over not going to Summit. I do not understand it, but Parents definitely push for Summit.

I dislike the situation, but I rely on flocheer. I can’t make it to the large expensive out of state competitions. Flocheer is reliable. I get to watch my kid compete live which means more to me than words can say. The periscope feeds do not compare. For that reason I won’t end my subscription.

This is exactly where I'm at. I genuinely hate what Varsity is doing to the industry with this FloCheer contract but I'm reliant on their streams and still don't feel cancelling my subscription is an option. I feel like I'm between a rock and hard spot.

i mean, a girl can dream... but i can never see this happening. Bigger gyms have a profit to make and keep, they're not going to crush a thousands kids hearts by pulling out of the bigger comps (nca, worlds, summit) to boycott music rights and streaming services.
im 50/50 i dont like what flo cheer is doing, if they want to pull live streamed videos/illegally taken videos im fine, but to pull actual paying spectators videos down, i dont agree with.
i remember seeing a tweet a while ago about how flo cheer is rampant about pulling down twitter videos of comps, snippets, etc. but then flo cheer will take videos off other gyms twitters to share on their's without giving credit and apparently they see no problem with it. Their defense is "well we tagged the original poster in it, so its ok" but i guarantee you if people were to tag flocheer in videos pulled off their account they would flag them.
I dont see how they can take others videos, but claim stealing when people take there's ?!?!

Perhaps you're right, but it isn't just FloCheer that is the issue. It is getting raked by STP and paying sometimes double or more for hotel rooms you could easily book yourself - or worse being forced to provide a utility bill from a family member to prove your exemption is valid. It is ordering and paying for a $500+ uniform in June that is delayed through half the season. It is an EP providing a terrible seating set-up, overcrowded venues, waiting in line for over an hour to purchase a $50 admission ticket, etc. All of these things continue to get worse and not better and the gyms pay the biggest price. I really do think if the gyms came together things would change, especially if they worked with IEPs to have an end of year elite competition. Unfortunately I don't think we will ever have the opportunity to find out. I'm glad I no longer have to worry about it but overall cheer was a phenomenal experience for my kids and I hate to see what the industry is doing.

The reality is, what is cost effective for one person isn't necessarily for another, and one solution doesn't exist. I don't know copyright and proprietary law, so I'll just say the FloCheer rules stink. With that said, FloCheer is a good option for people that can't afford to bring their entire family to every comp along with their friends and fans. As far as Disney, no doubt World's, Summit and UCA are expensive but, the reality is those comps are still a more cost effective option for thousands of families in the Southeast than others. The same goes for the thousands of families that surround STP venue cities.

The most simplistic and effective answer is for people to do what they can afford. If everyone did that, the industry and its partners would have to adapt to what a realistic American family budget is, instead of the American line of credit they have gotten used to.

Exactly!!!!

Cali has had it right for the last couple years. Only taking a team to summit if they have a paid bid. Summit hasn’t lost in prestige in winning if you win it’s still saying you are the best what’s lost it’s prestige is going to summit. In reality with proper planning anyone can get a bid to summit but winning not anyone can do. I personally love the experience but i wouldn’t mind if we did a paid only experience.

Sure, ideally we'd all go on paid bids! The issue remains you still feed the Varsity beast by attending the competition circuit where those paid bids are awarded. Those tend to be farther from home for many, two days, held in larger cities so more expensive etc. That "pay" is not nearly as large of bonus when you've done a few nationals to achieve it, though I will say the odds of winning from that bid vs. wildcard probably remain better.

A big name gym where I’m from in the U.K. decided to give worlds a miss last year after going for over a decade and that definitely turned a few heads. But the best you can get in the U.K. is a partial paid bid or an at large, so I can totally see their point for skipping out. It’s insane how much US teams pay, but it’s as bad over here.
