On the dance side of things, 19x UDA champ UMinn didn’t make it to song/pom finals. My heart. I hate when a great team implodes under new leadership. Let us remember them at their peak. Just go to :17 seconds to have your mind blown out your butt.

Speaking of which, Indiana University failed to advance to the All Girl Division IA Finals. Ouch! :(

Wow @ them not making it. I don't follow dance but I know enough to know they do well every year.

I think there was some controversy because they were supposed to take eight to finals, but then only took seven. Minn was in eighth. Something about their unis not being “pom” enough (they were very jazz-y, but they had the required lettering on them that made them a uni, not a costume... all this according to Twitter). So maybe they’ll fight it? I hope so. My old HS coach fought harder battles with judges and won. I’d hate to see them lose out on finals for such a dumb reason.

Gunna call BS on the uniforms for that one. Iowa started the pants trend a couple of years ago which is way less "pom-y" for UCA than black tights. University of Cincinnati has a pretty non-traditional uni this year too. Maybe not popular for UCA college nationals, but in high school nationals teams win and compete using a themed costume rather than a pom uniform.

But their ROUTINE being too jazz-y for pom? I could absolutely believe that. They've been cracking down on teams competing contemporay in jazz categories. I know I've been saying that Minnesota needed a new choreographer for years, but this was just a jazz routine with poms. Imo Minnesota does hard hitting, sharp pom the best. They took a risk, but UCA LOVES sharp pom and that wasn't it. Just not the right style for a team who normally excutes clean pom very well :(

That’s just what I read on Twitter from people who seemed to know what they were talking about. I’ll see if I can find the link and send it your way. Maybe you can make heads or tails of it.

If you go down to the tweet where she talks about UMinn “shockingly” not making it to pom finals, there’s a whole discussion in the comments.

But unis aside, the routine wasn’t great. Turn sections off, etc. And if you’re going to put white poms in front of a black uni, you’d better make sure everyone is in sync. It’s a disaster otherwise.

And I think they did get a new coach/choreographer like three years ago? I remember because they immediately lost their pom and jazz titles to Ohio that first year. Then last year they won jazz at least, but still lost pom. And now this. I suspect a lot of people aren’t happy.

WE ARE..MEMPHIS!!

I haven’t gotten to watch them practice much this season since CP has been out of the gym-I miss that.

For those not watching, floor cleared due to an injury on UNLV all girl so performance order/time is a little off.

D1A has not been a hitfest, but notable performances so far: Bama All Girl, Ohio State.

Sad IU All Girl isn't in finals after a rough day 1 :( their routine was packed with difficulty. Good luck to everyone today in finals!

That was so un-UK like. Beyond the 2BFs, the technique was not there on a lot of skills too. What a rough night.
