I'm so so confused
Why do people still think things can go back to normal in June/July. We are not even close to the peak of infections .Nowhere close yet. How in the world should we have any sporting event

I mean they have cancelled the European Soccer Tournament which is HUGE over here and postponed it to 2021
Why should Cheer be back in June?

I'm trying to be optimistic and i would love to see my athletes back in the gym asap . I would love to compete in June. But as of right now i don't see it

A lot of people over here are still in denial or disbelief. You just have to watch the videos of college kids on spring break in Florida whining about how this ruined their spring break to see that. We are slowly making the right decisions but there are still too many people out and about every day.

I saw the videos yesterday and they made my head hurt.
Ignorance at its best.
These people are the reason why this whole pandemic is going to take even longer . It's ridiculous

We just got a statewide quarantine and that will probably be followed by an actual ban this weekend so noone can leave the house anymore . All because people ignore advice given by officals and think it is all a big ''coronacation'' (that term actually pisses me of beyond believe)

I can understand the case for ICU Worlds.

But what in the name of whoever you believe in is the point at putting allstar worlds in the fall when everyone will have made new teams.

Actually it's not really convenient for ICU either
There is a long summer break in july and August and then the first important competitions happen in november/December
Plus Tryouts for icu 2021 are normally in september

I am curious as to how thats gonna play out

I get it--they are a business and are maybe trying to stay afloat. Who knows? But I think they are doing irreparable damage to their brand.
Yes. A business supported by families who are also trying to keep their own families and businesses afloat in what has already been a surge in unemployment. I hope they consider the financial impact of 2 worlds 6months apart or a disney trip in the height of tourist season.

And I really hope that whatever decisions programs, families, and athletes make it does not become a contest whether cheer is important to you, who is “all in” and who isn’t etc. We can be upset that the season ended or cheer career for seniors ended this way and still believe it is for the best to call it and focus on 20-21 season

It's not even the impact of 2 Worlds/Summit 6 months apart. It's an issue of can families afford this now. So many people are working from home/not getting hours/getting temporarily laid off, applying for government assistance/deferring mortgage and bill payments/etc. that will all come due over summer/early fall that fun things like cheer will take a back seat for now, and maybe even for next season too

It already has become that - on Facebook you have parents bickering back and forth about this exact thing. I left one cheer parent page a month or so ago because it was so jaw-droppingly ridiculous that some of these people were having a pissing contest about whose kid competed while the sickest. One woman bragged that her daughter had 105* fever on the way to a competition but it had come down to 103 or so by the time she took the floor and there was a hospital across the street so it was okay. And she got so many positive comments about their “dedication”! It is sickening. These are the kinds of people who are driving this “compete at all costs” mentality.

Cheer is not just cheerleading. For everyone that is concerned about paychecks, I'll remind you that cheer pays employees at Varsity, Disney, Convention Centers, airlines, hotels, restaurants, car rentals, uber/taxi drivers, gyms owners, coaches, office staff, uniform/warm up/practice wear/sportbra/backpack/shoe/sock/bow/hair tie/hair spray/make up/spray tan/eyelash/make up industry employees, landlords, utility workers, insurance companies, bankers, PT's, landscapers,.... Every business eventually touches every person, and Varsity provided options that will allow families and gym owners to make the decision that works for them financially. World's, Summit, and next season may or may not look like years past, but in the scheme of things, that's okay.

I understand and am sorry that there is so much economic hurt to go around. Other major sports and college athletics that canceled their season did not ask their fans (in this case parents) to fully bare that economic burden and collateral damage of canceled events. Are the Red Sox season ticket holders paying for all those little bars around Fenway to stay in business? Who is supporting all the little restaurants around Broadway? And meanwhile Varsity is rescheduling events for May that are still very doubtful to even occur while at the same time USA swimming and I am sure other Olympic sports are trying to move all events to summer of 2021.

Make no mistake, I understand and FEEL the economic hurt that is happening and will happen. Just question whether it is better to survive and make it to next year or spend it all completing this one.

Just today, 5 of my friends announced that they were being let go from their jobs.

I can see it now.

The "Who is all IN?" emails and group chats about Late Worlds. The pressure.

The "If you're not all in you can be replaced."

Yes, Suzie's mom KNOWS that cheer is not feasible if her business just took a huge hit.

But it hurts to see your kid desperately want something, feel the pressure of not being on the mat, feeling like they're not In The Worlds Team Insider Club, not getting asked to hangout, etc.

So mom feels pressured to do something unwise to make it work. Like putting it on the credit card.

Is every gym going to do this? Prob not. But I can guarantee some will and it's pretty gross.
