Since we’re all in quarantine, I thought I’d start a thread about any suggestions for (good) cheer/dance-centric shows to watch if you’ve already binged Cheerleaders, etc. I just found this guy:

It focuses on the powerhouse Louisville dance team and even though it’s dance-focused, the coaching elements are still there. It goes slightly tawdry for me — there’s some infighting and drama — but nonetheless it’s always fun watching a great team be great.

(Side note: if anyone has watched this I’d love to discuss it because it’s been awhile since I’ve been on a college dance team but some of these coaching tactics are weird. I mean clearly they’re working — the team has pretty much won every Nationals they’ve entered since 2002 — but I have questions.)

So if you’ve got any suggestions, let’s hear them.

I've watched... A lot of reality drama, but overall it was good. I could watch Ladybirds dance allllllll day long. I think it's even crazier to watch now though, knowing he is gone and all the drama surrounding it.

I loved Cheerleader U.

Lots of cheer. Very little extra.

Sorry but I don't care who is dating whom.

I just want you to show me that basket again.

IKR??? What is that all about? On the one hand he claims they have no proof of any wrongdoing, but then again they would have to in order to fire someone so successful, right? And now I guess the police are sniffing around? So weird.

Louisville Athletics was run by Tom Jurich for years... He built it into what it is. He did some shady stuff, but ultimately built a very strong program with every single sport. The new President and AD are trying to clean it up, and consider Todd to be under the Jurich umbrella. He says they are getting him out because of that, they say he stole funds. The baseball dinner is a whole other can of weird though. I’m sure the truth is somewhere in the middle and we will never know the truth of it all.

From what I’ve read, it sounds like he might have grounds for an appeal. The Louisville admin says money disappeared after Todd received it, but that just means something happened to it between the time it was given to him and the time it was deposited. That doesn’t mean he stole it necessarily. I mean it doesn’t look great for him, but it’s far from hard proof.

But all that aside, I also read he left a job as an HS dance coach “under pressure”? Who knew the Kentucky academic dance community was such a soap opera!

Here’s the article I read:

Fired U of L Ladybirds coach Todd Sharp demands proof of wrongdoing

ETA: aaaand this is what you must’ve meant about the baseball dinner:

Fired U of L dance coach: No ill intent when gun accidentally went off near baseball event

Are we sure that this guy and Joe Exotic aren’t related?

He coached Floyd Central, which is in Southern Indiana. They have won nationals a bazillion times, and they all go to his private studio as well. Many go on to dance for Louisville. I feel for him though... This has been his identity forever. I'm sure this is a strange feeling to have it all ripped away from you.

Well when $40,000 goes missing someone must take the blame. Also there was a lot of talk that the additional fees that the ladybirds and cheerleader had to pay he demanded it in cash same with the Dazzlers. More than one person admitted that. Back to the main topic Cheerleader Nation is a great show to watch.

Yes. I think someone uploaded the whole series on YouTube so that’s always an option.

I’ve been searching so hard for their True Life ep. It was such a different portrayal of the team. They were arrogant and overconfident and ended up getting I think 7th or 8th when they were very much planning on walking away with white jackets again. They expressed this by pointing out ones worn by other girls and asking aloud, “Why are they wearing OUR jackets?” SUCH a different vibe. I’m interested in giving it a second watch.

The true life episode is the reason why I started following Dunbar but unfortunately its no where online.

I also just remembered Bring It. And Dance Moms of course. Both are about competitive dancers but I can’t look away. I have so many questions.

Bring It:

1. Why... is their technique like that? I’ve literally screamed at my TV over it.

2. How does battling work?

3. Their comps are held at high schools gyms and the scores are just judges writing their choice for first place on a note pad? Is there scoring? Is there an EP? Is there a flattering costume EVER?

Dance Moms:

1. Does anyone believe that they just learn a dance a week before comp and that the parents are told about it only days before? Like, really? I have trouble getting all my kids together for a last-minute practice two weeks prior.

Well thats disguting. and Im not just talking about the 'poms'

Yeah it looks like an cheaply-shot Lifetime cheerleader movie complete with laughable “college” unis, a salacious girls-in-skirts plot, and poms that came from a party supply store.

Dear everyone: if we could just move away from the “cheerleaders are w****s” trope, that’d be great.
