They also make it sound like worlds is an after thought and it might be more of a consolation prize then a legitimate worlds win. I wonder what went into the decision to save summit over worlds? More money??
Worlds is USASF. Summit is Varsity.

In the meantime, IASF discussed with ICU and is offering to postpone Worlds until late September.

There is a survey for owners, coaches, athletes and other professionals to answer. The final decision will be made in May. Here it is: Survey Page IASF Worlds

I know IASF has a lot of countries under its umbrella. It is only fair to me that everyone is able to voice their opinion.

Will it be at Disney World? No idea. There is no question in the survey regarding the location. But they do ask if their would be an impact on Worlds 2021 if a gym/team participates in Worlds 2020. Some countries might have trouble with their bids.

Will the US teams be happy is Worlds is postponed and they can't participate? Oof...
I find it extra hard to believe international travel will be realistic or possible by September.

Are gyms still charging you all full monthly tuition/fees?

How does that work during COVID?

@BlueCat are your families still paying full tuition?

Curious because my spin class studio paused my monthly fee on request.

Wondering if cheer gyms are doing the same thing?

It may vary from location to location. Generally, we have developed a fairly extensive online library of workouts and content that our athletes have access to. We also have some other rewards/incentives to continue paying. However, we are allowing our families to opt out of tuition payments with no penalty.

Why doesn’t everyone just shift everything ... not THAT hard ... I know TRADITIONALLY we have had certain seasons at certain times for everything but why don’t we just temporarily change the cheer season for a few years while we are dealing with this?
Shift HS Comp Season to start tryouts in Sept/Oct Regionals in Dec-March (so no real out of region travel in the winter) and nationals in April/May
And Allstar Hold Tryouts July/Aug start competing locally Feb-April (again, eliminating travel during peak illness time) and hold Worlds May/June (just before or after graduations ) - would it disrupt the natural time frame we are all so used to- yes, but let’s face it... our world has been rocked.
I feel the same should actually be done with the school system... seeing kids return to school in September (September the new August) and late June as the new early June release (not sure how your school calendars work) but going back first week of September and getting out Mid to late June makes sense... with a three week “Holliday break” Dec 21-Jan 11 (that way everyone is home not only for Hollidays but peak Flu transmission time)
Bump each sport for a late 1-2 week start with football start in September- cut each sport by one pre season game - with each school only allowing HOME team spectators utilizing both home and away side seating- no AWAY travel for spectators- this year...
Maybe this is stuff that is being discussed already but just my thoughts- solutions
Has anyone thought about shifting the the whole athletic calendar as a whole? ... not permanent ... but until we get this controlled ?

... and this is IF sports/in person school are allowed to resume...

Our issue in the UK, and probably a lot of other European countries, is that we get our Bids a year in advance as our season runs to slightly different times and to allow for sufficient fundraising and planning time. Our teams that should have been in Florida right now, gained their bids from competitions LAST season, so in the March - July of 2019.

Our bids for Worlds 2021 should be given out from now to July - but all the competitions (apart from a couple at the end of June and July) are currently cancelled. I don't see the UK cheer season resuming this year as I think we'll have restrictions on large events for many months to come. So if we can't get bids, then there won't be any UK teams at Worlds in 2021, unless bids from this year are allowed to carry over.

Our final big competition of the season is at the end of July. The competitions don't really pick up again until February/March time - although there are a few regional ones through the winter.

There's just so much more to work out from an international perspective.
Very interesting... so technically the team competing at worlds isn't the team that earned the bid? How do roster changes work because what if a good portion of the team doesn't come back the next season, but they are tied to the bid?
Also, if the season doesn't pick up until Feb/March then how are you in peak shape by worlds since that is the start of the season. Never thought about international seasons being a year behind in bid process.

I’m not from the US so maybe I’m just out of touch but I can’t for the life of me understand why a country that gets 30 thousand new confirmed cases daily would want to ease up on restrictions
I’m in NJ 2nd highest rates in the WORLD and people can not just stay home. I don’t get it. Unless you have to go to work just chill out.

Your comment about a postponement clause got me thinking.... who is going to look for a clause in their gym contract next year about refunds or suspension of tuition if the govt forces closures during next years season? This happened at the end of the season so losing 1 months tuition was not a financial dealbreaker. But say that restrictions are eased and another wave happens and your state closes in November. That is a far different story financially.
Our gym already told us that they are revising the contract for 2021 for this exact reason.

our gym asked us for a portion of our April tuition to cover expenses already paid out. April is out last contracted payment. year end events are paid for Separately by qualifying teams.
Returning athletes for 2021 season will have a credit on their account from the Varsity refunds.
We typically start payments in June we are waiting to see when we begin this year based on the gym opening back up.

We run on a different schedule than the typical year round gym. Some parents pay in full in August, some make monthly payments September to May

We asked people to make their April and May payments, and to contact us if they were financially unable, because we have already paid out almost everything on their behalf. Our monthly payment plan is basically financing tuition.

We did however give our parents an account credit (not money back but a credited amount to their online accounts) for rent (we don’t own our own building so we did save on rent for the months we’ve been closed) and registration fees from competitions that were cancelled. They could apply this credit to a payment or save it for next year.

We are getting our own facility in June, but it’s rent free until September. We elected to not even consider starting our season until August. It’s much easier for us for planning than trying to anticipate when public health orders may be lifted or modified in our province.

We are a relatively safe province as far as Covid numbers are concerned, for about the last 10 days we’ve had 4 or less cases announced each day. So August so far seems realistic for us to start up again.

I’m in NJ too, and it’s simply not possible for everyone to stay home. I need food and the wait times for all groceries delivery services is too uncertain to count on. It also depends on where you are in New Jersey; north Jersey has been very hard hit, the rest of the state, especially south Jersey not as much.

I wonder if they considered non-stunting divisions, both for this comp and maybe for next season ? It would be a lot easier to do social distancing with dance, jumps and tumbling vs stunting, as well as to adapt for athletes needing to be out due to illness or quarantine due to exposure.
I do think the athletes on those teams are very talented stunters...but that’s worse than NT teams, which are already taking half of cheer out of cheer IMO.

North Jersey here!! I mean stay home beside work or food shopping. I go out one day a week to food shop and run any other errands -like prescriptions. I mean people who are still trying to go on the board walk or getting crazy staying at home. I just feel like the less we are out now the quicker we will be back To somewhat normal.

All reasonable reasons to go out... what doesn't seem reasonable is bringing an entire cheer team together right now. I about lost it when the idiots in Walgreens were standing only two feet apart even though there are spots on the ground so people know how to space themselves. I guess I can't think about cheer practice when I can't even find cleaning products or TP on any shelves here.
