An investigate piece came out this morning on USA today. It's a incriminating article given all of the negative publicity cheer has been getting lately.

Personally I believe our industry needs to step up and take responsibility for this. It certainly paints cheer in a bad light and I'm not sure how much more Varsity & USASF can take at this point...

Cheer: Sex offenders have been allowed to continue working in sport

Yeah man. That’s one of the worst parts of this: another reason for people to crap all over cheer. I’m just hoping it won’t turn into, “Girl-dominated sports (cheer/gymnastics) are a haven for predators let’s just shut them all down.” Even though the victims were male.

Yeah this isn't good. One of the writers of that article is the same journalist who spent months helping to expose Larry Nassar and the problems at USA Gymnastics, which in turn led to tremendous turmoil and upheaval at USAG.

Ever since the gymnastics scandal, many youth sports have been under a microscope regarding how they handle sexual abuse cases, but all-star cheerleading has been able to escape scrutiny since it's not a mainstream sport. But now with the Jerry scandal, journalists are going to take a closer look at how exactly cheerleading handles (or doesn't handle) issues like this. Every organization can learn from USAG about how bad things can get when you sweep abuse under the rug or don't have any strict policies in place to handle or prevent it. I would hope that by now cheerleading has effective ways of handling these issues, but who knows.

Still annoys me that Karolyi”s have yet to be charged with anything! They r not innocent! Plus to see that if u say something then U will not be chosen for the team for biggest
competition of sports even though u score higher than another athlete who did!

This is long overdue in the industry. At this point we should acknowledge it is currently not a sport and has never been governed as one. It's been an industry that ran a youth activity from tinies through college and allowed it to get to this point. Many decisions were clearly made to "promote participation" over safety.

A new or completely purged version of the governing body and agencies seems in order as they are all complicit. USA Cheer, USASF, IASF, ACCAA, NACCC, etc

Let's not forget the corporate entities responsible: Varsity (and their parent corporation), NCA, UCA, Jambrands, etc.

Perhaps it’s a naïve thought...but I wonder if a true umbrella-type governing body for

Agreed. We have no real governing body here...no NCAA for college, some states still don’t have HS cheer under their sport sanctions, all-star has USASF(which is just big V in a nutshell). It’s no wonder it all slips through the cracks.

NCATA created a fully sanctioned NCAA sport that met all Title IX requirements and Varsity blocked it for STUNT then lobbied for HS's to use the format because "it's a full sport, we use baseball terms and everything"
