I think this article is funny. I do know that a gym suggested the move to Friday.
My daughters friend a competitive swimmer had a 4 day meet move to start on Tuesday - as opposed to the original date of Thursday to avoid the shutdown. cheer is not the only one. And I thought they did a great job at the venue.

Interesting. Varsity already getting some press for moving a comp up to avoid the indoor sports ban in NJ.

Cheerleading show moved to beat indoor sports ban was irresponsible, Murphy says

But he okays pro sports and college sports and calls us a “show”

Yeah the lack of respect for cheerleading, especially from men who usually only cover "ball sports", is irritating. I think it was just the writer calling it a "show" in the headline. Then in the first paragraph he refers to it correctly as a competition.

Pro sports and college sports are doing frequent testing, contact tracing, and in some cases "bubbles", so that's why those sports are allowed to continue and youth/club sports have been targeted. Still, that article made it sound like there were hundreds of people in the arena for this cheerleading competition simultaneously, which doesn't sound like it was the case. If they were more or less just shuffling teams in and out of the building one by one, that doesn't sound bad to me.

For Battle under the big top, parents have to wait in their car until right before the session starts. I like it. It’s relaxing to have some peace & quiet instead of “get me food, spray my hair” etc.

Double post but YAS BUTBT! It felt so safe! Got in a short time before CP’s team was on, groups of parents from different teams were kept separate, no mingling around except if you needed the bathroom. Masks required. There was a VIP viewing area but it was only for family members, no crowds of other fans. (Not sure how well that worked for the famous teams in earlier sessions?) Then we had to leave straight after and got to another hall with a few vendors. Great job!!!

With cases surging in GA, I question the wisdom of this. But this is GA, and nothing really surprises me about this anymore

The majority of southern states have poverty levels 15-20% and I imagine we'll have another dose of perspective when the federal moratorium expires for evictions at the end of the month.

@cheermomforever and @Knowcheering Pro/college sports also have people with them that can handle minor injuries that youth sports go to Urgent Care and ER's for.

Unrelated to above. While our politicians are busy trying to make the other side of the political aisle look bad, there are people really hurting. I love and respect our healthcare workers, please know I'm extremely grateful for you. All of the "selfish speak" tells me how stressed our medical staff is in many places. With that said, there are millions that would trade places with our medical staff to have an income if they could. Our hospital beds, supplies and staff will be stretched for a long time and I'm truly sorry for that. With that said, these face to face comps are keeping hundreds of people employed, housed, fed and tax money coming in for things such as Medicare, Medicaid, clinical trials, etc. There's no such thing as a frivolous job. To provide a balance, most will hurt financially and be stressed at work.

Stepping off the soap box and returning to BUTBT, the teams are looking good under the circumstances.

(I’m going to repeat myself) I think if focus is put on HOW safely things are done/run (sports) or open (business) rather than WHAT is open or closed/paused or shut down we will be a LOT better off.
Simply put go stricter on protocols and uniformity of policy in CONTROLLED environments and you’ll have less people congregating and spreading this virus in UNCONTROLLED environments out of defiance.
Some of you are talking about how SAFE you feel at some comps... and something has to be said for that... I know I would likely feel safer at a comp with no audience with just my kids at a scheduled time in masks rather than a Costco right now packed shoulder to shoulder.

That's great, I am glad. Have to be honest, watching from the comfort of my family room and seeing the viewing section and people shoulder to shoulder makes me feel queasy. But crowds in general look controlled so I would just stand in the back by myself :)

Also, I just heard a very lengthy announcement of how the seating pods are working. It sounds like a good system but this event is small. Just wondering if this can/will translate to something of the magnitude of Cheersport?

i have to agree with this, while some people are very much for cancelling the season and closing gyms till this is much more controlled, you are then forcing hundreds of people into unemployment and into systems that cant even handle the numbers they have now.
And ill never understand people's arguments of saying they feel safer in one public area vs others. Working in the tourist industry i cant count how many people are like "i feel safer at disney then i do at the grocery store" and im just like ughhhh.
but you wont win with some people, its either lock yourself in your house and let thousands fall into unemployment or do the best you can with controlling situations in order to keep people employed.

One of the things I've experienced is that coaches and gym owners don't believe in covid or wearing masks. They actually made fun of it when we were able to practice again in June. This behavior thus encouraged the cheerleaders to NOT wear masks. Even now with the numbers increasing we can't keep masks on the girls because the coaches just don't care and don't enforce it. We've had multiple covid cases or scares in the last week and still no regard for athlete safety.
