BUTBT pissing me off. Not the comp itself, heard it was super safe! Very glad it got to happen. BUT there are people bashing teams on yt for choosing NOT to wear a mask on the floor when varsity gave teams that CHOICE! cant we all just be NICE and SUPPOTIVE. is that REALLY too much to ask? Can we all be glad the season happened, and support the teams that work SO HARD??!?!?!
I'm literally so done. I'm over this world...JESUS COME BACK SOON :)

One of the things I've experienced is that coaches and gym owners don't believe in covid or wearing masks. They actually made fun of it when we were able to practice again in June. This behavior thus encouraged the cheerleaders to NOT wear masks. Even now with the numbers increasing we can't keep masks on the girls because the coaches just don't care and don't enforce it. We've had multiple covid cases or scares in the last week and still no regard for athlete safety.
Not all coaches are like this.....ever since going back in July masks are mandatory, no one but the athlete is allowed in the gym....and clean clean clean every night at my daughters gym. Different states, people with different attitudes. That’s why it is coming back with a vengeance.

They're the same people who had rules about coming to practice when sick or risk losing a spot in the team before Covid. It's not a surprise they don't take any of this seriously now

Just my opinion but also kinda backed by what we know about covid...

Wearing masks at practice is important, especially while stunting. Because you’re close for long periods of time.

When competing it’s not as important bc it’s only a short time with brief contact. You’d be pretty unlucky to catch it in the few seconds you’re next to someone’s face during a stunt for example. But of course it could happen.

You’re always going to have trolls crapping on teams for whatever reason they can find. It’s not even about the masks. It’s literally because trolls will take any reason they can find to say something ****** about a popular team and run with it. If it wasn’t the masks, it would’ve been something else: the choreo, the unis, the social media pages, whatever. The trolls love to bully teams about social issues and then say “I’m just standing up for what’s right” to defend their behavior. It’s very transparent and exploitative. It’s also nothing new.

I’m actually a little queasy about this. There’s a coach of a team we compete against who is very pro-Trump. Which doesn’t necessarily mean she’s anti-mask, but I’m not feeling generous about giving her the benefit of the doubt. So I’m honestly concerned if she makes her kids wear masks. Because if not, then I don’t really want to be around them in the warmup room/awards circle come February (assuming that’s still happening).

Masks should be a requirement for competing. Seeing the tglc video from yesterday and NONE of them are wearing masks is just...yikes. They come from florida so that is just completely irresponsible

If a team came off the floor and put their masks right back on, it'd be fine, but I'm guessing some of these teams aren't doing that and think they're "above" mask wearing. Maybe each kid should be required have a plastic bag with their name on it and drop their mask backstage right before they perform so that it's easily accessible after the performance.

Anyone who has ever done a Level 6 routine in their life knows the feeling of barely being able to breathe at the end. Even kids who are genuinely trying to compete in masks are having to pull them down during portions of their routine, especially tumbling. When you are gasping for air, the last thing you want is something covering your face. So I can understand teams not competing with them. But mask wearing should be required when walking through the venue.

Not directed at you, but maybe I missed the fact that TGLC was walking around the venue without masks. First I have heard of it and normally anons will take that and bash athletes all over social media.
For anyone outraged that they did not wear masks while warming up/competing - do you wear a mask when you are home with your family? These teams spend as much time if not more in close contact with each other as immediate family members do. For anyone complaining that teams are not wearing them while on the floor it seems hypocritical to me if you are doing the same thing around family and friends. Not to mention that athletes from every other sport are not wearing masks while practicing or competing.

I'm fully aware of their thinking regarding illnesses. I've been with them for 10+ years. But there is a big difference in sitting at the front of the floor when sick and not enforcing masks during practices during a pandemic that has severe long term health issues.

Has anyone heard anything about NCA? Is it definitely going ahead? Will there be less teams than usual? What covid safety measures will they have? I can’t find anything about covid on the comp website.

As of now, yes it is going ahead. I would imagine there will be less teams than usual and they will have mask requirements and limitations on the number of spectators. I am not at all saying this to be snarky but I have traveled several times since March and I can 100% guarantee there will be less restrictions and more risk during your travel to and from than the competition itself - especially if you are flying. The airlines do what they can but most are not limiting flights and some of the terminals are packed with people.

Thanks! Yes I am very concerned about everything around it. Travel and also trying to avoid eating in restaurants, wondering whether Uber is safe etc. I’m not sure if we’re going to go or not. NCA will be around every year. Covid hopefully will not.

ICE Barrington, which allegedly has had multiple Covid outbreaks, turned in 120+ medical waivers so that none of their athletes had to wear masks. This put every other athlete that competed at Holiday Classic this weekend, all family members of athletes and all the Varsity employees at risk of being exposed to their viral droplets(cleaning mats and surfaces doesn't do anything to protect from airborne droplets). I am beyond pissed at how irresponsible and selfish they are being. You can also view them ignoring masking for their practices via their instagram page.

Darlene and Jessica need to be held responsible for this, I am going to do what I can to make sure that local media(TV and Newspaper) and local health departments are made aware while my athlete and I are quarantining do to their decisions.

Also to the ICE Barrington parents, some of which I have considered my friend over the years, you know this was wrong but you went along with it. My question is why?

@123jump4!

I hope that I am wrong, but I keep hearing rumors that NCA nationals will not take place in person in Dallas.
