I'll repeat, I can't take what people report from their time as minor children w/a grain of salt. And saying; "it's all gyms" is not better. Children should not have stories like this. I hesitate to "not believe" accounts from children of abuse because it happens all the time. Especially, if I don't know the character of the adults personally. I'm always suspicious. Children are often tricked by adults in power. Many, many kids have come out in support. It's heart breaking.
Social media is this generation's means of communication.
This is the latest disturbing account (warning: its quite jarring):

If even 1/10th of this is true, CEA doesn't deserve to still open their doors.

That and the "this person abused me and is still coaching" narrative that I keep seeing across multiple gyms over years is disgusting. Gyms and owners have to stop hiding and protecting these folks.

Example: There is an owner/coach with a suspension for inappropriate behavior that I know everyone on here knows about, and they still coach like nothing ever happened.

If we are referring to the same coach he gives off creepy vibes. I think it was brought up about him attending a competition after been suspended and he responded that he wasn’t there as a “coach” but just the owner.

This alleged victim says the USASF does know and nothing was done:

I can't read any more. All I can say is read these for yourself. Now some former athletes are revealing who they are. So they're not anonymous at all. One was a "star" athlete who won Worlds multiple times. She was successful. Why wld she come out? No one would have known. I hope something comes out of their accounts.

Post your opinions but I'm done. So disgusted with this industry right now.

Brandon Hale had been put on the ineligible list, but was removed pretty quickly, like within a couple days. Not sure what that was all about.
But I agree, all the stories being shared are just heartbreaking, and disgusting.

Holy hell. This is disgusting on so many levels.

This is the worst one so far...

In addition to the obvious of this being totally unacceptable and criminal on all levels, it is a perfect example of parents being completely irresponsible and sometimes enabling as well. No parent should be drinking with coaches during a competition particularly if the coach is under age yet it is somehow acceptable in cheer. If a parent was informed by their child that a coach was being inappropriate the first phone call should have been to the police, and the second to the gym owner to give notice that the athlete would not be returning to the gym ever.

Unpopular opinion alert:

From a parenting perspective:

If I go to drop my kid off at a practice or lesson and the coach smells like weed, we are done. Bye.

My point: if the kids can walk on the floor and smell weed/tell people have been drinking, I know you can as a parent. Working in schools, I know weed/vape/etc. as soon as I smell it.

I can almost guarantee that there is an element of "nobody says anything as long as my kid is a fave" thing going on. That is wrong.

Ex: "My kid is center on a winning Summit team so whatever it's fine, not gonna rock the boat bc Billy Bob hit the bong before her private." Or "Omg she just made XYZ not even saying anything about it. It's fine." The Fave Moms don't say anything so the new ones catch on and they also don't.

Wrong on their part to be doing it? Yes.

But what you permit, you promote.

That goes for any gym. It's not just wrong once you are no longer affiliated with them. It's wrong and you as an adult are complicit for knowing and saying nothing.

All I can liken this to is a cult. Just think, women were willing to be branded at the orders of a shrimp of a man. I think people gain perspective after they've been removed from the environment where this behavior is normalized. I imagine the coaches gaslight their patrons by saying the allegations are lies and the athlete is bitter.

Not excusing anything. Just playing devil's advocate for a minute.

That's also true but those women were not paying for a service. For a kid's activity. I think people need to quit (in general) viewing gyms/coaches/etc. as family and remember that these are literally paid service providers.

You would never allow someone to provide a service in your home smelling like weed? Cut your kid's hair smelling like weed? This isn't different.

See also: I may be a different kind of person but if I pay you for a service and you (example) push me out a door, throw a chair at me or my kid, etc. you better hope you kill me because we will have an issue.

These folks are ... interesting.

I also think the kind of parent who gets caught up in these sorts of toxic places with an athlete like this are looking for something for THEMSELVES.

They don't have friends. Or a fulfilling relationship. They have unresolved low self-esteem. Maybe they weren't well-liked in HS.

They make their kid's cheer life and mom relationships more than they need to be, which is how you arrive at "looking the other way" on shenanigans.

You see what you want to see because you've made these people your friends, family, etc. to fill some void.

To the point that your kid can cry about being pushed by Billy Bob at a private and you'll be like "try harder next time."

It's not the kid's outlet. It's yours and you don't want to jeopardize your friends, girl's nights, fave status, etc.

It's incredibly hard to loop a parent into this when she has a life outside her kid and is not oddly attached to what her kids are doing.

Example: The moms at my son's soccer events are not my friends. They are other moms. We might speak, but if soccer coach was smoking weed, nothing they can say is going to keep me from addressing it and moving to a diff program. I have friends. I do not need to find that in kid soccer.

In Texas, Life skills rooms have to have video cameras that record at all times. If there is ever suspicion or an accusation of abuse, the local police authorities can access the videos. Obviously, abuse is taking place outside of practice/gym time, but for gyms that could afford this, it might be one way to protect themselves and athletes.
