All-Star Is Cea Over?

Rape allegations? Sexual misconduct? Stolen credit cards numbers? Do not take your accusations to twitter. Heck, don’t even take your accusations to USASF, go to the POLICE. Those are crimes.

Verbal abuse by a coach? True abuse? Go to your parents, change gyms, go to the police, report to USASF. Ranting on Twitter solves nothing.

And honestly some of what I read, read like teen drama. So and so was mean to me. My coach got mad and I was embarrassed. And while they are free to heap the allegations on, any comment mentioning that results in perceived victim blaming.

I am not in the all star world. I coach high school where even a tenth of some of these allegations would get me fired. But that doesn’t mean that I haven’t had kids over the years quit because they didn’t get along with teammates or because I benched them and they got mad. In the right Twitter firestorm, those instances could add fuel to a fire that is not there.

Not that I am excusing anything. If any of the criminal allegations are true, they don’t deserve to be coaching. But again, take thee to a police station so they won’t be coaching!

I was skeptical about this situation until last night. If I'm not mistaken, one of the children speaking out yesterday night who shared her own story was a CP of a poster who shared the same story on here years ago. That situation was brought up earlier this year on the boards. My point, we have been hearing stories like this for years...regardless of whether you think twitter is wrong the forum. We have a first hand account on this very board of why parents are scared to speak up. My heart goes out to that poster and her child, and every other person speaking out if this turns out to be true.

I want to echo a poster from a few pages back...if these allegations are not true these children need help. If they are than they need even more.

America is not perfect, but it has one of the fairest justice systems around for both the victim and the accused. I'm not for Twitter becoming the judge, jury and executioner for anyone or any business. I am starting to see kids getting excited about their power, and I'm finding it extremely disturbing that kids seem more excited about seeing #ceaisover trending and moving up the trending ladder than actual justice being done. Whatever is going on in that gym, if these kids and parents are brave enough to put it out on Twitter, then they should be brave enough to go to the police for it to be investigated and go through the justice system. For small theft in NC ($5000-$10,000 depending on county), they can take it to small claims court.

Be careful. The US is slowly establishing grounds for slander and libel on Tweets. It is one thing to support and want justice for someone you feel has been wronged, it is one thing to encourage them to go to the police or smalls claim court, but it is another thing to start Tweeting and re-Tweeting information on Twitter that may or may not be true.

my take is that she wasnt living with her parents at the time of the theft, etc. So while i dont know the backstory as to why she was living on her own at that age, my guess is that she couldnt or didnt feel comfortable reaching out to her family for help. Also she's a teen from my understanding, and in that environment most dont have the know with all to immediately contact the cops, most deal with it probably internally or try to move past it.
Again i find her story messy at best, but if she was friends or living with staff and the coaching staff was generally aware of what was going on, i cant say they are a hundred percent innocent in all of this. If you know your coaching staff or athlete is being accused of stealing and smoking weed with other athletes or staff, and you refuse to address it, that a BIG red flag. Plus if your holding your athletes to certain standards and willing to kick them off for small things that happen outside the gym, but arent willing to do the same to your staff who are doing the exact same thing, that would be another BIG red flag to me. You cant demand your athletes to hold a certain standard of behavior, but then let your staff run lose.

Theres a big difference between being yelled at and verbal abuse. Im glad you've never experienced verbal abuse. But please don't confuse the two for those that have.
Agree completely! People have been charged recently for telling someone over and over to kill themselves and they did......Verbal abuse can do so much damage to a person!

Something I will say in defense of the athletes themselves:

When people are speaking out and leveling very serious accusations like rape, abuse, etc. (Very serious and important to bring up.) -

It IS a tad lame for ex-CEA athletes to now pile on with really insignificant stories such as:

"I was on Minis/Youth with (insert high-profile current SE athlete here) for 8 months and she was so mean and made me need therapy and hate cheer."

Um. I am not trying to invalidate anyone but this athlete had to be in THIRD grade at the time. Give her a break. Really. You can't ascertain someone's whole personality from being on a team once with them when they were like 8.

The equivalent of someone tweeting that 30+ me was mean to them on our 5th grade rec team. Sorry?

Please don’t assume what my experiences are.

I’m just saying the “verbal abuse” allegations are crude and vague at best and it’s impossible to tell what’s happening or what’s true. And even if the coaching behavior re: yelling at athletes is true, that’s also been seen at Cali and they don’t experience half the backlash.

If you think this is about athletes being yelled at, I don't even know what to say

I assumed based on your response. Apologies

However this board alone has had 2 personal accounts mentioned from parents of kids that have attended or are currently attending CEA. If you don't want to believe the kids. Then believe the parents who have been reporting their stories here for years.

Aa a mother of one child from those stories, I'm still dealing with the aftermath of it. It's not yelling at. Please do not demean what our kids have gone through.

?? I haven't seen a parent on this board share their personal account. If you are one of them, this is the first time you have mentioned it.

Not on this thread. But one was shared originally about 4-5 years ago or so, then again in more detail last year. There have been a few others over the years, usually without naming the gym, but it was easy to figure out.

Who still anytime there is cheer drama takes to Twitter. We are at another location but I have seen first hand the lies that parents spread when they feel their kid didn’t get what they deserve. Not that I’m saying it didn’t happen because maybe it did. But from my experience the main source of drama is parents. The coaching isn’t harsh but once you get to the worlds teams it is cut throat, your spot can be taken at any time. And when this happens parents react in the craziest ways. My main complaint I’ve had about CEA is I’ve never seen more self entitled people in my life. This season kids who didn’t get placed where they wanted left the gym and went to a local gym that put them where the parents felt they belonged. Entitled parents create entitled children. Which causes ridiculous behavior. In all actuality she didn’t bring back 2 coaches this season she had took on from a gym closure because she felt the coaching was too harsh. But none of this is about kernersville, just Raleigh.

I could write pages and pages about this whole situation as you can see in my name-we are (were-my kids have aged out) a cheer family in NC. We have cheered from pop Warner to All stars, through two HS seasons and been with the best collegiate program in the state. These stories have been going on for years. Bottom line, in this state they are the gym that wins. Hands down. Yes, there are other programs, but none with their success at winning the big comps-and Worlds. At least no other programs in the past 5-6 years. Part of this-the influx of cheer-lebrities, social media etc. has something to do with it. I was the LAST person anyone ever expected to be at that program but one of my CP had the opportunity to be on one of "the" teams, and I took it. We had a good year-she won NCA, UCA, All-Star challenge. Got three jackets. Next year she was on an ok team (her original team did not exist that last year), and most of her friends had graduated-so we ended All-Stars. I always joke that cheer here is like a crazy family-people come and go to that gym-they try other programs, come back, leave again. Until there is a strong enough program to really go up against them-things really won't change. And they know it.
