Confirmed CEA Raleigh Teams 21-22

(I am not sure how much of this is different or changed from the projections posted in May so I apologize if redundant) -

Tiny Turtles - Tiny Novice
Baby Sharks - Tiny Prep
Tiny X - Tiny Elite (this does not have a level listed but I am assuming it has to be Tiny 1, as Tiny can't be any other level, right?)
Mini Flurries - Mini 1
Mini X Pixies - Mini 2
Glitter - Y1
Mermaids - Y2
Princesses - Y3
Sharkbites - Y4
Lovespell - IJ1
Frost - IJ2
Ice Queens - IJ3
Juicy - J4
Berries - IJCoed4
Kiwis - JC5
SJX - JC6
Sparkle - S2
Senior3lite - SCoed3
XKO Knockout - Small Senior Coed 5 (*division and level change - pretty sure this was a Senior Open Worlds team in 20-21?)
Blush - Small AG NT 6 (*division and level change - pretty sure this was a Senior 5 in 20-21?)
Code Black - IOCNT6
Cougar Coed - XSmallCoed 6 ((*division and level change - they were in one of the open divisions in 20-21 for a long time but can never remember if Senior Open or IO.)
Smoex - Small Open Coed 6 (*division change from Medium Coed)
SSX - Small Senior 6

Sidebar questions/comments re: above -

1. Are they splitting NT small and large now? Since when? I did not see an announcement from USASF but I also have not been paying attention?

2. So much switching to OPEN every year. Especially for Coed teams:

  • Senior aged boys with Level 6 tumbling have always been hard to find but I assume they are becoming more rare?
  • That and I get the feeling that Worlds level GIRLS are at a premium now too? (Unless you're a gym with enough to fill an entire LAG6.) I say that because again, more all girl teams going open every year. It's probably easier to switch divisions to let your 18+ talent keep cheering than it is to try and work within the senior non-open age grid and potentially have to figure out where you're going to get more kids from.

Also since I am on the interwebz today for a little bit and saw it posted:

ROCKSTAR CHEER 21-22

The Wiggles - Tiny Novice
New Edition - Youth Prep 1.1
The Ting Tings - Med J1
Queen - U17 LEVEL 2
kiss - Small J3
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Med SCoed 4.2
Spice Girls - U17 LEVEL 4
Guns & Roses - Senior Open Coed 5 (did not even know this division was a thing? is it at Summit?)
Rolling Stones - IOCNT 6
Beatles - Open Small Coed 6

Disclaimer - I do not cheer at or coach at any of these gyms so if it is wrong let me know, I literally get this from the internet.

Hmm so AC/DC is no longer a team and Rolling Stones is the non tumble. Honestly seems like a smart move, Rolling Stones and AC/DC did not do to hot at worlds last season.
Abt the open coed level 5, CEA had O5 last year and this year, but they where also the only
Ones in there division at summit. So either this division is fairly new or just had never been a popular division.

Way too many divisions. I don't think I'd be dividing 4.2 into All Girl and Coed. We don't need four 4.2 divisions (Small, Medium, Small Coed, Medium Coed), it's too much. Some Summit divisions had 5 or fewer teams in them, so imagine what these divisions are like during the rest of the season. These teams are often going uncontested. What is the point?

On another note, I know that competition divisions are referred to as Elite to differentiate them from Prep/Novice, but seeing gyms call their teams "Tiny Elite" and "Junior Elite Level 1" just sounds like an oxymoron.

There's too many divisions. My god.

I struggle the most to remember who is in what open division because teams change/switch every year between the 2!

If someone put a gun to my head and I had to tell them (example) which open coed division Wild or Cougar Coed was in I would be toast.

In some cases I did not even actually know til I SAW it on the Worlds schedule.

Sidebar: These envelope opening & surprise reveal type events wow me every year!

Every year I am in awe of them because I know when I coached HS there was NO way I could have announced results with confetti envelope parties + me in the same building without some hurt feelings.

I assume though that it's very similar to any other tryout situation in that if you KNOW your kid and you know their skills, what's in in their envelope isn't a surprise/shock and you have a good idea of what might be in it.

Ex: If your kid's double is inconsistent and they do not have all the Level 6 skills, you know there's probably not a Level 6 team in their envelope so no need to be shocked/dismayed. You can probably also prep your kid so THEY are not shocked.

Yup most athletes tend to know what team they're going to be on, especially since most gyms don't have that many different teams at each level/age group. The Reveal event is mostly for show. In some cases, it might soften the blow for athletes who get placed on a lower level team than they wanted to be on--- it's harder to be upset when confetti is being throw in the air, your friends are hugging you, and your coaches are clapping and cheering saying this is going to be the best year ever lol. Of course, later on at home when your emotions settle, you might feel differently, but I think peer pressure alone would be enough for you to pretend to be happy at the event regardless of if you actually like what's inside your envelope. If a child was really upset though and couldn't hide those emotions, it might get awkward.

The announcement of teams used to be a very private thing, with most gyms posting a list of numbers so that kids could process their team placement on their own without having all their friends immediately knowing where they're placed. If a child was, say, feeling a bit embarrassed or frustrated over being on Youth 1 for the fourth year in a row, they could process that alone with their parents instead of in front of all their friends who are on Level 2.

I tend to prefer a happy medium (ie. emailing team placements) over just listing numbers or throwing an event that feels like a Gender Reveal lol.

Frame of reference is coaching HS but I've very much been in favor of EMAILS.

I sent them all out by X time and you opened it whenever or wherever you choose.

Some of the girls would open together at someone's house like a party, some preferred to be alone.

In the past I have also: posted list on door outside the gym area of school on a Sunday, posted list online (sometimes numbers, some years names), posted list to my voicemail. _I hate the idea of anything public so I tried to avoid it but list posting at school became more public than I wanted so I moved online.

I remember cheering in MS and having results read (names) over the PA in the last period of the day before dismissal as part of the end of day reminders/announcement. That was my least fave way to find out because I definitely remember the anxiety of knowing the whole class would see me cry if I didn't.

In HS Cheer, I got my team placement one of three ways. First off, email. That was simple and easy enough. No hard feelings there. Then, there was letters in an envelope. That was essentially the same thing and I liked the physical paper. Third, was the list posted on the gym door after tryouts. What a mess. One girl on the Varsity team at the time had just come off an ankle injury; she didn’t gain back her back-handspring yet, and was specifically placed as the ‘alternate’ on the team. I felt so bad for her in that moment, being singled out. I can’t imagine this whole party thing, and then being singled out of your friends because they made X team and you made Y which you were all on last year. It feels a little over the top to me

Prodigy is adding another Worlds team, Dusk.

I didn't see anything about what division or whether it is all girl or coed.

Sky - Mini 2
Electric - Y3
Slate - J3
Steel - IJ4

Nightlight - NT6 is coed

Too many divisions. This “everyone gets a trophy” thing and greed really took over the cheer world. Cheer will never be considered as an Olympic sport nor will the non cheer world take it seriously until this stops.
