just one question since we don´t know much about it here:
how do i become a member if i am from a foreign country (just an athlete membership) and how much does it cost? thanks in advance :)

Have a question about the medium of delivery here. I like the information, but the way it is delivered is not necessarily the easiest method for the majority of people to read and use. Any particular reason myvirtuapaper was chosen?

How would you deliver it? I have the pdf if you want me to email it to you.

honestly, why hosted in a 'portal' to a pdf? i dont understand the control aspect so much. the thing i have learned through this board is information is powerful... but only if it is easily accessible. im just looking at the ways to deliver the info easier and better to everyone.

My guess is to increase traffic to their site to get or increase advertising. I agree information is powerful, but someone's has to pay for it.

understand to pay for hosting with advertising, but there doesnt seem to be any adds on the link and instead of lowering the quality a smidge and having people download it once they have to continually go through the pages every time they want to see.

I just got done looking at the new Entirely Cheer issue, which uses something like Virtual Paper and was getting them confused. I'm not sure why USASF does it they way they do since it is hosted at Virtual Paper so USASF doesn't get traffic to the USASF site. Entirely Cheer's is done in a way that traffic is driven to the Entirely Cheer site.

Do you think emailing/posting pdfs is the best option?

I think the decision has to be made as to what they are trying to accomplish. To me a 'blogging' site and software is cheap and easy to setup, easy to update with the latest information, and would allow people to talk and comment about the latest news in the newsletter.

For 60 bucks a year they could get a wordpress theme going and do the exact same thing they are trying to accomplish with virtualpaper, but do it more cheaply and more affective. The idea needs to be the information is EASY to access, not inaccessible.

My personal rule is that if it cannot be accessed by my grandma on her phone then it might be too hard for the populace.

There are SO many cheap and easy solutions out there why not look into them?

I think this is the main question. I get the impression they are going out of there way for the magazine feel because most of the information is on the USASF site, but the stories are not.

I love Wordpress. I use it on 2 sites and am about to switch one of the others to it from Joomla, leaving the phpbb3 site as the only non-WP site.

I've emailed Dawnn to see if she can give me some background on why. It might just be that she was used to that medium and elected to continue using it when she was asked to do the magazine. Not sure, but I'll let you know.

Thanks ACEDAD. While the magazine 'feel' might seem appealing, online there is no confusion that you are actually online.. not flipping through paper. It is kinda like a Flash movie intro to a website. It is cool... ONCE. Then every time people hit the skip button. Flipping electronic pages is cool the first time, but afterwards it would just be smarter to post a link to a PDF or post the info to a blog site.

Bit advantage to the blog site is you can add stories and info as they are done, not on a certain date.

any word on this ACEDAD?

A big part of the reason is that it provides feedback on who's reading the material.

Some stats that I got on the Worlds bid packet (similar setup to First Friday):

Since January, it has been seen in

46 Countries
10,000 Unique Visitors
106,000 Total Views

PDF's don't provide that information.
