Texas Tech Competes NCA: (I could only find the practice video on youtube which isnt as good as they were at NCA)

There are loads of colleges that the dallas cheer world breaks off into...... Navarro is a Junior College that is big with cheer, and of course SFA is huge for cheerleading. Ut Austin doesnt compete but is big on football, as with OU (actually closer to Dallas than UT even though its in oklahoma). Texas Tech has a good competitive coed team and is big on football, though its kind of known as a party school here haha. SMU and TCU are both private and very nice, though TCU is all about the sideline experience (fantastic football team) where as SMU is working up to be more competitive (SMU is in north dallas, so it would be near Cheer Athletics, where as TCU is in fort worth and would be close to spirit of texas). Baylor is also private and has just started signing scholarships for girls on their competitive team (maryland stunt and tumble format), though they have separate sideline squads (coed and all girl sideline teams)....although they are consistently last in the big 12 every year and waco, tx isnt the nicest place aside from baylor's campus IMO.

EXCELLENT post!! Thank you... this is the kind of info I wanted to know about Texas :D. Very helpful!!

CEA is a huge feeder program to both the Coed and All Girl programs at NC State. And as previously stated Kelly Smith and myself (another CEA Alumni) are coaches of the All Girl cheerleading squad. I believe out of 25 girls last year on the level 6 All Girl team we had 12 girls who were former CEA athletes and my freshman year at NCSU an overwhelming majority of the Coed squad was CEA as well.

The all girl is a club. The coed is not and is recognized as a sport by the University as of a year ago. It was my understanding that coed went to NCA and all girl went to comps like Cheersport. The two do not work as one.

All Girl does go to Cheersport, but they also compete at NCA. Their all girl advanced has always been extremely successful in Daytona, placing near the top every year! They now have large coed and small coed, both cheer football games and compete at NCA :)

They have had both coeds for several years. The Coeds (Red and White) and the Mascots are the teams that the university recognizes as sport and thus pays for. The coed also gets all of the benefits of the university such as choice of schedule, trainers, tutoring weight room etc. When my daughter was looking at going to NC State last year we were told that the coeds were the only teams to cheer side line and games. That the all girl was a club and was treated like an allstar team. That they had to pay their own way and did not get any of the benefits as a sport.. I know of one person that cheered their first year on coed and moved to the club and retained the student athlete status with the university. Coed and allgirl are not the same in the eyes of the university.

I'll be going to OCC next year, then transferring to LBSU, hopefully doing California Allstars as well, since she's got a few years, if either of those become something more you're interested in looking at I'm sure I could help a little more once I'm there.

As for the Texas teams/schools, Texas Tech is about 5 hours away from CA/Spirit, I know they have/have had many kids from both those programs but I don't think many do both at the same time bc of the distance. I would say MOST of the college kids at Cheer Athletics & Spirit go to SMU or Navarro, both GREAT schools, Navarro being a junior college but the best junior college cheer program in the country right now. SMU keeps getting better & better & obviously is a very very good school. UT Arlington has a small coed that competes, they got 1st @ NCA this year & I believe they train at Spirit (which is in Arlington). SFA is about 3 hours away from the Dallas area but there's been a lot of kids that make the drive.

So just to clarify, TCU does not compete, correct?
Correct. They do get all of the athlete perks though such as tutoring. As far as competitive teams currently the big ones in TX/OK are OSU, Texas Tech, SFA and Navarro(JC).UT Arlington is a branch off of UT and has done very well also at NCA. SMU is one to keep an eye on in coming years competitively.

We would love to have her here in Louisville - International teams practice right befor U of L on Tues and Thur so the kids only have to make one trip to the gym. 3 out of 4 of our international teams won worlds in 2010. The football games are amazing. We have a highly regarded engineering school (speed school). And last, but not least, I am here to look out for her.

Awesome thread! Thank yall so much for the info! My daughter is going to be a 10th grader this year, and we are talking about college more and more every day! I am trying to talk her into staying on the east coast... anyone have suggestions on Florida schools?

I know that U of Miami and FIU have Top Gun close by, UCF in Orlando is a good one and has several Gyms close. Cant go wrong with U of F and FU. All of the above schools are good schools.

The teams are not connected and Coed is recognized as a sport at the University. The All Girl squad is a club. Both compete at NCA Nationals in Daytona, but where Coed cheers ball games and travels to tournaments All Girl competes at other competitions such as Cheersport in conjunction with NCA.

i was actually surprised by the amount of cheerleaders that do slippery rock and pittsburgh superstars. it's mostly all girl girls, but we have a few guys on coed too, and some girls on coed that are interested.

shorter university in rome ga is NCA large coed and they are within an hour to 2 hours of georgia allstars stingrays and ace atlanta
