OK, ive been working on this over lunch (late lunch).

First, to prevent taking a shoe tag off one and putting on the other I say use a technology similar to plastic ties where once tightened they cannot be loosened, only cutoff. People could still change shoes, but it would require the exact same shoe size theoretically limiting people who could step in for one another.

Also, the picture printed on the front of the shoe tag with writeable space on the back where the number is printed.

All age eligible groups have a different color shoe tag. If a child is a senior, they wear neon green. Junior eligible, they wear neon purple. If they got a replacement shoe tag at a comp they get straight white (and would prompt staff to manually check them in before the floor). When a replacement is purchased at a competition a new one is automatically sent to the athletes address on file for the next comp (of course they would have paid the replacement fee at the comp).

RFID tags carry the USASF number and the eligible year. This way a tag is valid only for a year and a staff member cannot be duped by the color at a competition.

Thoughts?

I'm not seeing where anything other than the USASF number is being checked. There's nothing matching the person to the number unless they don't show up. What am I missing?

Maybe I need to understand the issue better.

What are we trying to prevent?

One question -- what happens when an athlete forgets their shoes at home and the shoe tag is on there? At our gym that usually means they borrow someone else's shoes. What would we do in that circumstance?

In soccer, we the parent rep holds the athlete cards and gives them to the coaches for games. We show them for the ref's to verify, then give the book back to the parent rep.

The main time I think you need to verify identity is when you have to check in to warm-ups. Maybe right before they compete

Based on conversations King and I have had in the past, either option would have a way to check in people that were registered for the event even if their ID (Card or RFID) wasn't present. The ID is to make it much quicker.

A soccer game probably checks in 30 people every hour for each field. A cheerleading competition checks in a team of up to 36 about every 4 minutes for each floor. We need a much quicker and more efficient way of doing it than soccer.

I actually talked with Scott from WSA at the ATL meeting. They are from Baton Rouge (their office is 3 secs from our gym) and told them that the board had a place for competition event producers to answer questions / make announcements about upcoming events. I wouldn't be surprised if you see him on here pretty soon )!!!

My favorite comment from that meeting was when someone accused Varsity and JamBrands of having a "pissing contest" referring to number of events they have in same area / same dates. Hahaha Classic

This is response to Kingston's about the IEP... sorry forgot to quote it.

I would love to get more interaction from the Event Producers. We all know the read it, but to post... that is something they are missing out on.

To me on this board you either speak and have a voice, or you are letting someone speak for you.

I have a fingerprint system in my gym that pulls your info and picture up on a pc immediately. There is a lot of stuff out there that would work, but again, the end result is usually to burden the majority that is honest and the cheaters learn another way around the system. Sounds good on paper and in theory, but has little effect in the long run except to irritate the vast hones masses. I'm just not so certain you want a big brother running all things cheer.

I agree, and think that is why the RFID shoe tags make the most sense. Any type of security system has to blend into the background and not be noticed unless there is cheating issue.
