I

imrichhowboutu

so i just so happened to notice that a certain routine is over 2min 30seconds.
im going to give it the benefit of the doubt because perhaps the video i am watching slowed it down a tiny bit (i.e. 5 seconds)

so i decided to look into this a little bit more for major competitions. and competitions dont seem to have rules anywhere now that discuss deductions or penalties for music over 2:30. all it says is that routines are limited to 2:30.

so i posted this on my facebook. and someone tells me that you have a 5 second grace period... so technically you can have your music go up til then, just not over. which i dont believe is fundamentally right.

5 seconds is 2 8 counts which gives you enough time to add a double tick tock into your routine

Wow. Yea it seems you're right. Exactly 5 seconds over. I'm not liking this at all. There definitely needs to be regulation of this.

Well the grace period is added in for the fact that CD players don't all run at exactly the same speed and that the time is kept by a person (usually the legality judge) with a stop watch so if the rule was exactly 2:30 people would have to cut their music a little short to be safe. So if you were to go to 2:35 any little error on the part of the stop watch or difference in the sound system and you would go over time.... It wouldn't be worth it

so maybe they are just being innovative and pushing the envelope

what team?

Just looked at my Itunes to see how long it would say the music is. I downloaded CEASE, Coed elite, and CEA Sharks.
Senior Elite: 2:32
Coed Elite: 2:32
Sharks: 2:35

However, to be fair, I did look at my worlds playlist and most teams did go to 2:32. There were some teams that went all the way to 2:35 (or more!), but I do think that's because it was a recorded mix.

KB_Legend, it does make perfect sense. I just don't see why we no one has found a better solution. I will admit, that I am not the person to figure out a solution, so I'm really no help at all.

I'm pretty sure the "grace" period has been around since stopping the music to do a cheer in the middle of the routine. People never could seem to remember to hit play or pause, etc.

look at the most recent video of senior elite. and pair it up with the music you have. youll see it doesnt match up. so its longer

im seeing a lot of teams who are over. i see more 2:35's from other gyms and even a 2:36. its still early in the season, theres always changes and a lot of mixes are still only the "1st cut"

Since Americheer is giving out the first World Bids this weekend, I checked out their guidelines and they only have a 1 second grace period. It would not be worth trying to "test the limits" in this case!

Yea I already did that. It is longer, but could that be because of technology. Like you said in the first post "im going to give it the benefit of the doubt because perhaps the video i am watching slowed it down a tiny bit (i.e. 5 seconds)"?

I don't know about this, but I do know that I don't like that I don't know. :) I'm so ready for other teams to show their routine (cough cough WCSS).

Also, most tracks have a second or two at the front and back end of dead air so that wouldn't count as part of the actual time of routine... Some teams may speed their music up a little bit after they get better at the routine as well

your right it doesnt match up. if the last video your talking about is the showcase video then yes they dont, the routine is actually faster than the music on itunes, about 3 seconds worth...which means senior elite would finish their routine at or below 2:30

the showcase video ends like 5 seconds early and the competition video ends 5 seconds late.
its the exact same music.

so that is really weird!
