My biggest pet peave in all of cheer.....when at awards the second place team is announced and the first place team celebrates. It is just plain rude..the second place team deserves their moment, these kids can be taught to throw a girl in the air and catch her but the coaches cannot take the time to teach them a little sportmanship. If my daughters team acted like that I hate to even think what the coach would have to say about it. I comlain about this at every single awards ceremony there is always multiple teams that do this...HOW RUDE!!!

I like how BATC announces awards. They get to the top two then announce the winner first. I think it is a lot to ask especially of younger teams to not go crazy if they are not announced 2nd because they won. In my gym we always stress how important it is to allow the 2nd place team to have there moment and to NOT ruin it for them. They can jump when there name is called not before hand, and if they place lower then they thought they would they know that no tears are allowed on stage. Fake a smile until your off they cry your eyes out!! ..

I hate teams that are rude, as a coach you should be teaching the kids about sportsmanship because at the end of the day that's what it's all about. If you teach them at a young age how to be good sports it will carry on throughout life.

My team tends to NOT win. :( We do well, but usually end up 2nd-3rd. Last year, we won a couple of competitions, and I think the surprise at the announcement of 2nd place NOT being them...well, they couldn't always control their excitement.

I completely understand and agree with what you're saying and as a coach I try hard to teach and remind my girls in the event this happens, to be applaud and congratulate the other team and wait for their name to be called before shrieking! However, I think they get caught up and tend to forget...but please don't assume that as a coach I have not discussed this with my team multiple times.

I honestly find it annoying when people stand up for every team. That's just me. I do clap for everybody and if they're next to me I congratulate them. I just don't feel the need to stand up. Maybe I just don't have great sportsmanship? Oh well!
I agree with this 100% It annoys me when that one random team from East Jesus Nowhere stands up for every single team, no matter what place was announced. Like seriously? Your trying a little too hard for the sportsmanship award... Just clap and congratulate the teams, we don’t need a show every time a place is announced.

i totally agree! i think the only time that it is KIND OF acceptable to do that is if you win the gold medal at worlds...because come on...you just won worlds haha. no other time is acceptable for me. sit down and stop your squealing until your name is actually called please!

One of my big pet peeves is when people sit in the stands staring at children during awards hoping to catch someone showing their happiness a few seconds early, then excitedly rush to message boards to trash them for it.

I have seen plenty of rudeness and poor sportsmanship in my years, getting happy too early is FAR down towards the bottom of things I get worried about. Much higher on my list is judgmental people trashing kids for how they well they can control their joy.

If you outscore one of our teams, feel free to celebrate immediately.
