I don't really know if you consider this bribing but I know of plenty of gyms that offer 50% tuition decrease if a child has a full. 100% tuition decrease of they have a double. It may work for some gyms, but to me that's just signing yourself up for trouble. What happens if a child with a double gets injured? Or gets a mental block? Their parents suddenly have to start forking out more money because they lost skills?

And maybe it's just me, but I don't consider level 5 cheerleaders any more special than level 1,2,3 or 4 kids.

i know! i know a gym that lost a LOT of level 5 athletes, then the gym down the street said that if those kids that left came to their level 5 team at their gym, the would get free tuition and dues!!

Gym not to far from us did a half season Senior squad when all of their other squads quit due to drama. Tuition was free and so were the uniforms.

I was at a gym where they bribed us. Yes there is a difference from bribery and a reward but when things during the routine went completely wrong they said "Who ever gets this first gets ...." (whatever they were offering)

Didn't work and we all eventually left.

I know some may think that this is far fetched but I can assure you that there are gyms that do this!! Not saying whether its good or bad but yes it happens!! My old Marine Corps recruiter did the exact same thing, even though my experience in the Marines was great, the things promised to me was not made good on!!;)

My brother also says this of the marines....

Some gyms here in NY promise girls they will be flyers..they end up backspots, or boys get free tuition but then they turn around and charge them more on travel fees and such..

I know of mannnnny gyms that do this. Of course my definition of "bribing" may be different, but I feel if you offer a child a spot on a team it's bribing. Most of the time, it's boys that get bribed, but I know of a few girls that have been recruited with a promised spot on a level five team or a flying spot. A lot of the girls at my gym have been recruited to go to other gyms and I've seen a lot of trouble come out of it. They don't get the spot, the tuition isn't free anymore, they get kicked off the team, ect. There's a certain gym that I know that kicks girls off to make room for more throughout the season for no apparent reason. To me, bribing doesn't work. It's just a mess you're getting yourself into if you try it, and personally, I wouldn't want to be caught with my hand in that cookie jar..

If I was a gym owner, I would want my competition doing lots of this. Then they would be out of business and everyone would have to come back to me.

i totally undertsand helping a family out they can't make tution/comp fee/ w.e for a month let it slide but giving seasons free with no charge at all? no . that doesnt work with me, and then those athelets saying "well i get to go to tumbling anytime i want" yeah if my parents weren't paying for me to cheer i would have the money to go and tumbling anytime i want too.

We've had plenty of threads about the equality of having boys cheering free on elite teams, but not girls. I'm sure it goes on..do I think it can cause resentment if the boys don't make up for it somehow (some boys who can't afford it are allowed to work it off), absolutely.

Agreed... I have to work off every penny that i am not paying in the office during my free time... but its def worth it :)
