Help please! We are new to cheer, this will be my daughter's first year, she is 7 years old and I just received the tryout results and she is on Youth Level 3. She has been cheering for rec and is good with her jumps, cartwheel and roundoff. She is working on her back handspring so this can't be right??? I tried to look up what the requirements are for each level but can't find anything.

well for basics level 3 tumbling is standing double handspring, jump to handspring, and running tucks (round off tuck, round off handspring tuck ect.)

maybe your daughter is a strong base! or an awesome flyer, is there any other youth or mini teams at your gym?

level 3 tumbling are tucks and below. if she is close to getting her bhs and is great in everything else then that is probably the reason she is on that team. also, if your gym does not have a youth level lower than level 3 then she is forced to be on that team because there is no other team she can go on.

What other teams does your gym offer? As suggested above, your daughter might be on this team because there's no other place for her.

thanks everyone! they have a mini level 1 team. i just assumed that the results were an error and sent an email to the gym. maybe it was correct? i guess i will find out tomorrow. she does have a 2 hour private lesson with my cousin's gym owner this weekend (different gym in a different state) and they swear she will have her BHS after working with him this weekend. since we are new to this, i thought that you needed a BHS to be level 2 and tuck for level 3.

Mini level 1 sounds perfect for your daughter. If it's not a mistake, I'm interested in the reason she's on youth 3 instead. Is crossing over a possibility?

They may feel she is more mature than the minis and perhaps they need her on the youth team My daughter has cheered since she was 6 and only been on a mini 1 time

so...her placement is correct. wow. i talked to the gym owner and he said that she should be there and there were many reasons why she should be on that level. i guess i will find out more when i chat with him in person.

i did see some kids there who could barely do a forward roll and others that could barely do a cartwheel. so maybe that's why? she is also the oldest out of all of her friends, her birthday is in early september so she typically is more mature than kids in her classes.

That is great news for you daughter. You should consider yourself lucky. I know many of upset parents and kiddos that about being placed on level 2 although they have level 3 tumbling skills but aren't as strong in other areas or just aren't mature enough. Cheerleading doesn't = tumbling, if that were the case than they wouldn't have any parts to the routine. I am sure she will progress nicely with the tumbling and by the end of the year be able to throw her RO BHS Tuck.

wow, thanks. everyone is making me feel much better about her placement. i just also don't want her put somewhere she doesn't belong. i definitely think she is awesome at everything else but needs tumbling skills. i'm not one to think that my kid is the best but i do know how bad she wants to do all star. i have explained the committment to her and told her she will eat, sleep and breathe this. i told her she will miss friends bday parties because she has comps and she still wants to do it. with the right training, i am confident she will be there in no time!
