hmm i feel as though if someone hit the top of your head they would break or stab you lol

LOL. Maybe. But maybe not any different from using bobby pins.
My daughter has very baby fine and thin hair so the pouf is hard to do on her. One mom does a really decent job of getting it to work on her without that shaper. In fact, in my profile picture, the hair in the pony is not her real hair, but that is fake hair because her hair was so thin. She actually looks like "pebbles" with no hair attachment. I know one thing our coaches/owners do not like about the pouf is the girls will have different height or widths of the poufs, so maybe the shaper will help ensure everyone has similiar height of their poufs?

I think the tease v no-tease, twist v no-twist methods depend a lot of the texture and thickness of the hair, and whether you need to do a full top head pouf or a bang-only pouf. On myself, use the "pull it out from the pony" method. No tease, no spray, no anything, but I don't need, nor do I want, to have sculpted-pouf perfection. On cp last season, I did bang-only (section out, do the rest of the pony, twist, push, clip.) But now that her bangs are growing, I'll use a method like:
1. Section out a straightened rectangle of hair from just above the temples to about an inch forward of where the pony will be secured. 2. Secure the high pony. 3. Spray the mess out of the rectangle, upside-down. Blow-dry the hairspray-ed rectangle upside-down, if needed. 4. Loosely pull the section back, and mold the front hairs so that any holes are covered and there is no definition between the section and the sides. 5. Secure with another elastic (I'll use the smallest plastic hair elastics.) 6. Spray, spray, spray. 7. Spray.
I will try to avoid teasing at all costs. Those with fine hair have a hard time avoiding it.

I can't seem to figure out how to do my hair half up with a poof and be able to put a bow in it, does anyone know how to do this pretty well?

My poufs always separate/split in the middle after a few hours at comp. Tips to avoid it?

Same here!!! Because I part my hair over to the side, when I create my poof it splits off to the side where my part usually is...any help? :)

yes. you create your poof, then take a layer underneath into the "half pony tail". in the half pony tail, include the tail of your poof. secure both chunks of hair in one elastic. does that make sense?

When you're about to make the poof, put tons of hairspray on the front layer of the poof, let it dry, then flat iron it in one piece. It should stay together. Or put gel in it, wait for it to dry, then flat iron the front of the poof.

That's always been my problem- the poof splits down the middle ('cause I split my part down the middle unless I 'flip' my part to either side)..if I can manage to get a good one made I'll take a picture..

Use a hairshaper spray when making the poof. Use alittle teasing underneath were the hair separates, should help. When your poof is finished spray with a strong spray, like big hair or something similar. Hope this helps, usually works for my cp :)

You guys are awesome. I'd love to see videos. . . we searched youtube but couldn't find anything really great. In case anyone is looking, there is an amazing high pony demo on the Tieayellaribbon site. That's one fierce high pony!
