Seniors should be put on JV?

Maybe your JV squad isnt a competitive squad thats why we have different points of view. For our school our JV squad is competitive and are there to improve and win. Our JV squad is intended to get people prepared to be on Varsity. Therefore if we do not foresee a person having enough skill to be on varsity in the near future we cut them because we do not want to waste a JV position.
Our JV squad is competitive but just because someone isn't going to be on the Varsity team in the future doesn't mean that we won't give them the option to be JV. We have many 2 or 3 kids on the JV team that might not make it to varsity in the future but we have plenty of kids that will be on Varsity. If the child shows potential then we give them the opportunity to prove to us that they can advance if they don't then either they will stay on JV till they are ready or we cut them the following season. I might not be as tough as a coach as you but I am def very competitive with my teams. It might just be the area but I have seen it many of times kids that have never done anything and have become the best cheerleaders ever.

What do you mean by have never done anything? If you aren't working and become a great cheerleader your must some great natural talent.

Sometimes it is great natural talent and sometimes it just called working hard to get what you want. If you work hard and do the conditioning that the coach gives you and follow everything you can become really good at this. A lot of kids have prove that in my tryouts along with kids that tried out during my high school career years ago. It happens a lot where I am. I see it almost every year. Idk maybe NY has some strange pool of natural cheerleaders that don't know they are yet lol

in georgia, its not allowed to have seniors on jv for any sport.

That is how it was at my school, not sure if it was like that for the entire state or not though.

For our team if you were a senior and didn't have the skill to make Varsity then you didn't make it at all. There were several parents who got upset about it so we then went with having 2 Varsity teams and no JV. The second Varsity team only had like 6 girls on it and had to cheer JV Football and JV Boys basketball but got Varsity Girls basketball and received a Varsity letter. It was a fix for the parents but people at the games still called them JV and they even messed up and called them JV in the yearbook.
We also had a rule at first that said no Freshman on Varsity but it had to be done away with when the Freshman started having more talent then the upperclassmen on the team.
If I were a coach I would have a no seniors on JV rule but I also would not put them on Varsity just because they were a senior. They would either have the skill or not make the team.

at my school any grade can make varsity ( as long as they have the tumbling requirment) but no seniors or juniors on jv.

IMO, seniors should be on varsity or not make the team. At my school, freshmen make the freshmen team or don't make it at all; sophomores make the jv team or don't make it at all, juniors can be on jv only if there aren't enough sophomores for a full jv team but other than that they either make varsity or don't make it at all, and seniors make varsity or don't make it at all.

I know the rule is set for OTHER sports, because nobody wants a senior linebacker on a jv football team.
or a senior pointguard on a jv basketball team.

I don't see where it applies to cheer, but I know it's very frustrating to have a weak link on the team that just made it because they're seniors. If you're not good enough as a senior to make Varsity, then you shouldn't at all. In my opiniooon.

Coaches want the best all around athletes for their teams!
When we judge tryouts we order the athletes by their scores and put in a cut off (there are other determining factors in our system though so don't get me wrong, this is just our general jumping off point!). If a junior or senior happens to be on the other side of that line, we will put them on JV. IHSA rules ALLOWS for this!

Basically, if you REALLY do love cheerleading, and REALLY want to be a cheerleader, you will make the best out of the situation you are in. If you are a junior/senior who believes you deserve a place on Varsity.. PROVE IT during practices! I have gone down to JV the past two years to pull up athletes by the time competition season comes around.

I would hope that every coach is looking out for the best interest in their team when deciding on the roster! You have to have faith that your coaches know what they are doing, and are trying to make the best all around competitive team!

seniors aren't allowed on JV at my school. juniors are but only under certain circumstances. if a senior does not have the skill to make the team they have the choice to be on the game team or just be cut.

I almost always let my seniors be on varsity if they have put in more than a year on jv. If they don't make it skillwise, but I think they might be helpful in a pinch (like if a backspot gets hurt) I label them as jv AND varsity. They only compete with jv. If I need them on varsity I take them out of the jv routine.

In the end, they get to wear the varsity clothes to school and tell their friends they are varsity, and they are happy. What do I care as long as everyone is competing within their skill level?

this is the one rule i can't stand, we have a about 10 girls that tryed out their sophmore year and made JV, so now they arent trying out again until their seniors so they automatically make varsity. which i find is unfair because our underclassmen have some extreme talent so some of these girls are going to be cut because of all the seniors trying out.

In that case, I understand the seniors on JV rule, but when a senior has clear devotion and tumbling requirements it gets to be unfair.

I mean, I would understand if I had no tumbling what so ever and didn't try at all, but actually having tumbling and being put on JV just kinda bums me out. Someone asked about cheering for JV games, I would have to cheer for our sophomore football team and only half of the varsity game. The thing is, there were seniors the last couple years who were on varsity regardless of tumbling level.

Did you ask the coach? I know she said that you were cut for motions but explain to her motions are a easy fix, but maybe she didnt want to have to fix your motions maybe she believes as a senior you should already know motions, but also you made a good point about senior being put on reguardless of tumlbing, i see no harm in asking her, she can not cut you for asking her a question and if she does i think its time for the athletic director at your school to step in..

Yeah I did talk to her, and she said the squad placements were based on how I was scored at tryouts. She said I scored very low in motion technique. Im guessing that motion technique had a huge weight on all of the scores then. It just upsets me that girls my age without a tuck made varsity, and even girls younger then me. I don't know... Im not saying she's wrong, its just frustrating, you know?
