My junior year my high school's coach changed from a traditional, old-school high school only coach to a former all star coach. He liked arabesques with the open hips. We called it "peeing on a hydrant." the old coach liked it the ballerina way, with squared hips and knee down.

Peeing on a hydrant!!!!!!

I've alway hated when some do scorps and they open to the front with the left hip up. I felt the the hip bones should be squared and facing down. I'd rather the slightly bent knee but good flexibility and height.

Same thing goes for Scale. I never liked a scale where the hip is facing up and the knee is facing out to the crowd. I always thought: tisk tisk!

I really hope it was a transition too. I think the hands on hips adds to the awkwardness for me. (again no offense to the girl. She's a pretty flyer and just doing what she was told...but it's an awkward position.)

im guessing none of you are fans of Georgia's arabesques? ;)
Very hit or miss for me. Some of them are really pretty, and I LOVE how high their chests always are. But I don't like it with the bent knees.

Forget heel placement and all of that jazz.....

as a judge all we want to see is a knee not bent, a toe pointed and MY GOODNESS ......IS GOOD MOTION TECHNIQUE IN THE AIR TO MUCH TO ASK FOR? (biggest pet peeve)

RIGHT?!?!!? I used to fly girls who would hit beautiful stunts and then hit the weakest, bent elbow, broken wrist motions. I would yell at them from the ground.

lol back when I cheered I was the tall back-spot, If my flyer ever had a motion like that I would threaten to knee her when she landed in cradle.

Just a little insight about how bad I cant stand by flyer motion technique...
I have to ignore the threads about "best *insert body position here*" because I want to beat the computer screen in when I see these kiddos with amazing flexibility, but "limp wrist" or thumbs sticking out of fist. I cant even focus on their flexibility because all I see is BAD TECHNIQUE!
