Ok, so I'm Elora Norman, Im 18, and Im from Auckland New Zealand, and cheerleading is my life.
I was so in love with it that i decided i wanted to live in america for a year and go to highschool and continue doing allstar cheerleading which i do here currently (and have been for atleast 6years)
I was going to end up in Nevada in a small town too far away from any cheer gyms which devestated me. I tried to find another family that would take me in that at least lived close to cheerleading gyms that i could go to.. But i was unsuccessful. So i came here to try and find a family that i KNOW is involved with cheerleading and would love it as much as i do and understand that i could not live without it

If you were interested.. All you need is a stable home, a high school nearby, and no criminal record to be able to host me. I will pay for all my own expenses, and you get money from my exchange program that pays for food and other neccesities.. I just need somewhere to stay and Im running out of time to sort something out :'(
So if you have any questions or anything and you think you would consider helping me have the best year of my life..please contact me asap!!

Thanks for reading!
Love Elora Norman

If you want an idea of the teams I competed with take a quick look at these videos

Aww thankyou thats really sweet!! haha i really am praying for something to work out theres alot hanging in the balance right now!! :) :) but yeah thanks for looking at this it gives me hope!

I think a few Aussies (maybe just one?) have gone to Cheer Athletics, and one went to HS and cheered in Grenville for a while. It might be an idea to contact a few gyms directly and see if they're interested in your skills and can find a family for you. Most have already had tryouts though, so get on it quick! Put together a short skills tape so they know your individual abilities and can see if they can fit you in existing teams. An idea might be to contact some of the parents active on the board, like SharkDad (CEA Raleigh), ACEDAD, Panacea (Marlins), Mamarazzi (Fame) or coaches like kingston (rays), bluecat (cheer athletics), ceacoach (CEA duh!). They may be able to point you in the right direction rather than just hoping someone will reply to this thread.

My advice is to find a gym, then find a family, otherwise you might find a family near a gym and not make a team.

I would add a short statement explaining why being a host family is great, how cultural exchange enriches both your lives and what you can bring to them beyond just the financial aid provided by the exchange company. Some deets about yourself: are you religious, vegetarian, into death metal, interests outside cheer (lol like there are any!), maybe you want to experience HS sideline cheer as well.

Rosemary Sims who owns Cheer Victoria Outlaws in Australia might also have some helpful advice, I think it was kids from her gym that went on exchanges. They're busy with the start of comp season but I'm sure they'll help if they have the time.

Good luck!

Wow thanks so much for that answer!!! haha very helpful i liked the bit about my other interests!! :) you sound like you know alot and when im allowed to ill alter this post a little and post it on all the other forums and see if i can get myself out there a little more. :) thanks again i really appreciate it!

Hi Elora! I wish I could do it, but unfortunately can't at this time. I'd be happy to let the parents of our gym know (Maryland Marlins) and see if anyone is interested. What a great experience for you and for anyone who hosts you! When will you turn 19?

Hopefully it will all work out. I might suggest going onto gym's websites and emailing them from there too. I can give you a start with ours...maybe others could post theirs as well to make it easier for you.

Hello Elora,
I think this is a great experience for you. Going off of what Panacea said...when is your birthdate as that will determine what type of all-star team you can be on since the age is 18 as of Aug 31. Are you going to be a Senior in HS this year? My daughter is a Senior in HS also does HS cheerleading as well as her all-star team and I think that this would be a great way to experience an exchange program as she was unable to do an exchange herself due to her commitment in cheerleading. We are also with the Maryland Marlins. Best of luck with your search for the right gym for your experience here in the United States.
