Something that i see alot more of now is gyms making shirts that are just an advertisement. Printing their tryout dates in big letters. i hate it. (especially because alot of the shirts are plain and ugly). i think it looks very tacky and desperate. What you do out on the floor should be enough to make people want to go to your gym. if your performances aren't enticing people then maybe you should be focusing on the teams that you already have rather than worrying about having more teams. am i the only one that doesnt like them??

I read a few months back that USASF may dis- allow the "recruitment" T shirt with tryout dates ect. or was looking into it. I cannot find anything on their site at this time though. These shirts are more that just an advertisement to some...

I don't think it's tacky. A tshirt isn't going to make a kid come to your gym. Chances are they had a genuine interest beforehand and just happened to see the tryout dates on your shirt. It works more for those 75%ers that are pretty sure they want to switch and need just a bit of enticement or information to make it easy for them to switch.

If a shirt makes you wanna go to a gym your going for the wrong reasons. If a gym chooses to do it more power to em. I see at as a reminder of what you see on the floor, "Hey that team was good, oh their tryouts are..." If you don't like it don't go to the gym if you do good for you.

I know of two very good and (world champion teams) with plenty of kids that have done this, I have both shirts. Honestly, I've thought nothing of it. Pretty clever when you begin to think of it.

I don't see anything wrong with it. It is the same as making a facebook group or advertising on the sign outside of the gym.
If a tryout shirt is recruiting then wouldn't shirts that list all their world titles or national championships on it do the same thing?

I'm not positive, but I believe Cheersport has disallowed advertising team selection info on tshirts.

The Jam Brands outlawed this type of advertising and recruiting at all of their events this year.

We've always given out an end of the year gift to our athletes at our last competition which has for the past few years been our new try-out shirt. Our last competition is in our state and several local gyms attend. The returning athletes are happy they have something new to wear at try-outs, the non-returning athletes are happy they've gotten a parting gift and those who've had the chance to watch us compete and interact with us throughout the weekend now know when clinics and try-outs are if they're interested.

See this is a way of getting the info out but not being stereotyped as one of those gyms that recruit athletes at competitions. The gym may have the shirts but it is still up to the athlete to want to make the change.

And all of our Naples kids wear the tryout shirts at school which is where we really want the kids from. Kids who have heard all year about how amazing cheer is and then see the shirt with the tryout date on it.

I guess Ive never seen first hand how this has or can be done in a "tacky" way so I'm always slightly put off when I hear regulations being made against these kinds of practices or people speaking out against. I've never understood how shirts or flyers etc. could ruffle up so many people.

it doesn't change anything, i see plenty of shirts with tryout dates, doesn't make me want to go there..
its more like "hey cool you go to that gym..."
