All-Star What Goes Under The Uniform????

..I often wore a sports-bra type item under my dance clothes. And I was like 10 the last time I danced in a costume..

I stopped dancing when I was 13 I think and wasn't even an A cup, so I guess I'm not representative of everyone. Although when I was in high school I often times didn't wear a bra under my uniform, but we had those old tight, polyester shells then.

Well at our gym the kids are ONLY allowed to wear sports bras to practice (no loose fitting shirts) and the spandex type spankie shorts which all of our practice clothes are. Some girls don't wear underwear with their spankies and some just wear 2 pairs (like a black pair under the normal ones). And NO bra straps can be showing. My daughter just wears the sports bra alone and a black pair under her normal spankies.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm just curious; Why are the rules for practice wear so strict?

Oh no its fine lol. But they just said that they want everyone to look uniform and want to see correct form of the body (thats why there are no shirts allowed) and you have to have your hair up with a bow! We get a calendar every month and it says what to wear each day your team comes in. But we do have fun dress up days sometimes! Is your team just allowed to wear anything they want?!

Myself and a few of my dance moms friends were talking and a lot of them are upset because a dance teacher told a group of 6-11 year old girls that they needed to buy thongs to wear under their costumes. I'm split on the matter, mostly because I understand were both parties are coming from, but how would you feel if your coach or your child's coach told them that they had to wear a thong under their uniform?

There is a dance forum out there called www.dancemom.com

Not having a dancer but I read about random stuff online and I browsed over this message board 1 day. There are active poster's there and maybe that would be the perfect place to ask this.

I would be hesitant to put my 12 year old in a thong. But maybe that's just me. LOL

Well not talking about dancers but in general like at practice and stuff. I would love if all the girls on my cp teams wore thongs! I'm tired of seeing them pick wedgies because there underwear or what not went in their but.

My cp doesn't have this problem but most of the others do. My cp wears boy short panties. Target has some really cute ones for little girls. Anyways she wears boy short panties and she is always wearing spandex shorts over them (my cp's are really short they are almost like the boy short bloomers). She either wears the spandex shorts by themselves or she throws a pair of regular shorts over those. Her panties don't rise and with those spandex if she is wearing her regular shorts they can't go in her but!!

Now,
If it was for a costume I would try for nude color panties first. If it was too tight to allow for that or not pleasant to the eye I'd actually let her go without. Id try to stay away from the thong but if it's a costume it's not much different then anything else. I wouldn't be offended if we were asked to get one tho! & yes my cp is 6 and I'm not completely against it!

Since we practice 3 days a week we have 2 days with an outfit and 1 with anything you'd like that's in team colors. I was just questioning about the whole no bra strap part showing... Reminds me of my school dress code haha... Minus the sports bra and shorts part #privateschoolproblems

Yeah i don't really know hahaha.... maybe just because all the different color straps?? But no one seems to mind the rules, but minis do go a little crazy with the different color bows and socks!

..Oh, I was a flat as the prairie. I just remember getting the feeling girls were making fun of me because my leo wasn't the thickest of material and CT is a perm ice bubble from oct-march/april..so I deff wanted the coverage. Who wants their various bits being cold all the time?

I'm in the camp that danced growing up, no undies, just tights. That was class too. Forget the costume being too revealing, little kid undies generally are cut bigger than even a modest cut leo and are baggy (compared to dance gear) and will end up sticking out. Thongs shouldn't be needed unless there's costume changes, in which case the thongs wouldn't be appropriate anyway and the nude briefs/shorts/bodysuits would be a better alternative.

With some of the dance costumes I have seen I think if a thing was required, I'd be Ok with it. In fact I'd me more OK with a thing than say booty shorts, thigh high stockings and a garter.

But I think a thong is just so practical. I so wish i knew about them in HS. It would have saw me some serious digging during volleyball, basketball, etc. (I don't see them as being sexy or raunchy.). Especially if it is a plain, nude colored athletic thong. Now if someone is asking my daughter to wear a black lacy one...then we have a problem.

i think if you think of it solely as part of the costume, it isn't that bad. a thong is not something these children are going to wear everyday.. they only wear it once with their costume.

while it may have been shocking to the moms, I don't think the dance teacher was out of line. Dance is all about lines and underwear, especially that of a 6 year old, will probably break up those lines. they are just not cut the same way a leotard is.

Lol, I know and belong to that forum also! I guess I should have phrased it better, but my real question is, how would you feel if your cheer coach told you or your cp to wear a thong to competition?

i was a dancer and we had to where thongs or nothing under tights/unitards/or costumes .. or else yu would see the underwear line .. but in cheer bloomers that are either connected to unis or yu put on are cut lik regular underwear so i dont think it matters .. i just think its wrong to wear thongs and soffe shorts as a cheerleader to prac. cz there baggy and yu can seee right up .. i suggest a compression short to our girls for prac.
