The real problem here is xtreme spirit as a whole. It really is no surprise why XS has lost some of the biggest names in the midwest such as UA and GBE. Also is no surprise why ICE never goes to xtreme spirit competitions. This weekend was seriously a WASTE of time and money. We also will NEVER be going back to an xtreme spirit competition. Regardless of other sports and money, this was very wrong. How are you as a competition owner going to pay a team in one way or another to come to your competition and then pay for them to go to worlds?! Like seriously?! what is wrong with you? Not only is this unfair because Top Gun was already pretty much guaranteed that bid, but it makes Xtreme Spirit look TERRIBLE. Oh and dont think that top gun stayed in just any hotel, they stayed in a luxurious house paid by xtreme spirit. Not to take credit away from Top Gun, but in my opinion Indiana Ultimate is the one that really deserved that paid bid. Top guns performance on day one would have not scored the way they did at any other competition! They were 9 POINTS AWAY FROM A PERFECT SCORE, WITH 5 DROPPED STUNTS. Not including their other mistakes. Indiana Ultimate had just as much difficulty if not more and they were far behind Top Gun. Oh and not to mention that the panel of judges arent even real judges, they had some 18 19 year olds with no knowledge of level 5 cheerleading. Xtreme Spirt should NOT be aloud to give out bids, after this weekend, numerous coaches are writing letters to USASF because this is seriously a sorry excuse of a world bid competition. Warm ups were messed up and not in order, and there was serioulsy like a half hour gap in between every teams performance. We had such a long wait from our warm up to the time that we actually had to perform that there really was no point of even "warming up". You could also tell that the owner of xtreme spirit kept going up to the judges table and seemed as if they were constantly arguing about something.. it really looked a little odd and to put the cherry on top XS treated top gun like GODS. When they performed they closed all their booths and all went up to the judges tables to record them...., they also had security scooting people back from the mat when they came on, they didnt do that for any other team. All that xtreme spirit accomplished this weekend is getting a WORSE reputation. I really hope USASF does something about this. I hope xtreme spirit realizes how much business they have lost. all just in the dream of having a team such as top gun represent you at worlds.

hahahha finally someone spoke up! and i thank you for that! i was about to do it myself when i got home! but this is entirely true. every single word in fact. and all those people saying how they cant see this really happening, well neither did we. until the day rolled by and we witnessed this, its pretty much unbelievable. but ive should of known something like this would happen from xtreme spirit, due to the fact they were pretty shady last year too..

Yes, unfortunately there were occurances this weekend that sort of left a bad taste in our mouth. Besides scheduling issues with our crossovers due to the small number of lower level teams, we also had issues with incorrect deductions for 2 of our teams on the first day, and had to wait almost 3 hours to get that taken care of. (With that said, The safety judge couldn't have been nicer and more apologetic.) However, then the icing on the cake for Day 2 was when our Junior 3 team was announced at awards as 3rd, and was a far ahead 1st on day 1. They read the results backwards, and so the team lost "their moment". Equally terrible is the team that was announced 1st, that were probably even more disappointed when they realized they weren't.
Not to mention, the scoresheet is completely bogus. A tumbling touchdown is -1, and a stunt fall is -1? A tumbling bust is -5 and a stunt fall is -5?? That's crazy. Not to mention they didn't reward difficulty at all. Our Senior 4 on day 1 with 15 kids, did 4 tick up stretch full downs, then 3 tick ups, 3 1 1/2 ups, 3 full arounds, and some other transitional stuff. Day 2 we took out 2 of the full arounds, and made the 4 tick up stretches go straight up just to make sure they hit clean and we got the same difficulty score...Uh??? It doesn't make sense.

this is absolutely true! their scoring was so unbelievable. we scored high in difficulty in stunts, but tumbling we got nailed on. since we had doubles and the rest fulls, they only counted the percentage of the doubles. so we got 30% on tumbling...basically all of our fulls could of been tucks and still wouldnt have counted. but we decided to throw the same skills and not change anything. and another thing the judges did (which were 19 years old?!), was not countt how many skills were thrown! like seriously, were you sneezing the whole opening or something? they gave us less percentage on tumbling than we really did have. this competition was a complete joke and I WILL NEVER compete here again. with losing people from last years scores/bids, to "inviting" top gun and unfair scoresheets, this competition will be dead anyway.

OH MY GOD THANK YOU! EXACTLY MY POINT MADE. I know you saw us day two in one of the halls, we took ALL the difficulty out of our stunts and put up ALL straight up stunts just to prove a point. Which is why I am saying that it is so unfair that top gun can drop that many stunts yet THEIR difficulty is recognized.

i feel like we had the exact conversation with our coaches/team....people from all gyms were not happy let me tell you! we were about to do the same thing, but for tumbling. a team that falls all over should not be so much higher than a near perfect routine. but of course its political and if they are being paid to come, they kinda have to win right?

Now that I think about it, the week of Battle Under The Big Top in Atlanta we asked if Top Gun was bringing their i5 team and Drkilluzionz said that they were not because the kids couldnt afford it! He said something along the lines of "The poor college kids of i5!" And now magically 2 weeks later their able to afford hotels, airfare, and comp fees to Wisconsin?! Atlanta is a heck of a lot closer to Miami than Wisconsin and on such short notice! So yeah I'm sure this was rigged and I feel sorry for the teams that competed thinking they had a chance at that bid. Can't say that I blame Top Gun. Free Vacation, Hotel, & a Paid Worlds Bid!!! Now thats the life!

Professional Golf tournaments pay "appearance" fees for players all the time. As a matter of fact this happens in most individual sports all the time. While cheerleading is not an individual sport, it does have the same type of scheduling as individual sports.

We can agree to disagree. A golfer being invited to play in a tournament with expenses paid that doesn't offer any advancement to a "worlds" event is far different than an event producer paying a portion of one team's expenses at a Worlds bid qualifying event. Golf is objective - there are no judges, so it is pretty difficult to manipulate results, and I don't believe golf has qualifying events (but I know nothing about the sport). I can't think of any situation where organized sports teams are paid to participate in a qualifying event and it is allowed by their governing body. Whether Xtreme Spirit had intentions of "handing" the team they gave preferential treatment to or not, it looks shady. USASF allowing things like this to happen means we are further away from being a legitimate sport, activity or any other name you want to put on it.

I wasn't going to comment about this because it is a he said/she said type of thing but after reading this and then remembering when this was said the same thought popped in my head. If a team is trying to save money then by not attending BUTBT then why fly further to Wisconsin for a bid? I can totally understand if they thought it would be have a better way to spend the money because they would have had a better chance at the bid, but when so many are saying something it makes a person wonder.

you basically took the words right out of my mouth. they didnt only do that warm up thing at this comp its at every comp and thats why our gym dont go there anymore. i always feel that they completly favor certin teams not just top gun its at EVERY comp. its unfair to everyone else that is there. and yes UA should have got the bid.

Hmmmm, I guess I should be more careful with what I say and more importantly who I say it to. Regardless I did say that but Ive also mentioned that our i5 spent thousands of dollars last year to attend two competitions last season in hopes of a bid, did well at both winning their divisions and high score at one of them and did not receive bids b/c they were an open team. Those two competitions were Battle Under the Big Top and Jamfest Indy.

Xtreme Spirit has been on i5's schedule for this year just as long as the other competitions. A former coach whom we love and support does in fact work with them now and it was through him that we found out the company would offer a paid bid to an open team if they were deserving. We are also attending Xtreme Spirit comps throughout Fl for the sole reason of supporting him in his new career venture.

It's called strategy folks...our Open Hip Hop attends Cheersport then and again b/c they offer partial bids to dance teams...Our i6 attends US Spirit b/c they offer partial bids to Open teams...Coed tries their damndest to be ready by Battle Under the Big Top b/c our program loves to represent them...and if we had a 5th Worlds team we'd probably try to figure out what will work best for them to achieve their ultimate goal as well, that doesn't mean we have secret dealings going on with Kevin, Brian and Dennis.

A lesser known gym can put 4+ bid competitions on a schedule and unnecessarily spend thousands of dollars trying to attain a bid but a more well known gym cant apply the same philosophy and just do it smarter?

The best visual example I can give is Jacob Murray from CA Wildcats 2006 worlds. Center Jumper. There is a signifficant difference between a toe touch and an "around the world" I also think there is a Video of Bucky doing one as well.

On an unrelated note... wow difficulty and choreography has come a long way.

get over it people, TG makes smart business moves. Also, they won with the highest score! Your constant nagging and bitterness will not change anything.

I would like to see Top Gun's Day 1 performance as well. They did look great on day 2, but heard that they didn't do so well on day 1, yet were still in 1st place. If they looked good both days and earned that bid, then great. Maybe someone that was there and saw them both days could let us know more about how day 1 went and if they thought they deserved to be in 1st after Day 1.

All well said, and I don't want to be "that guy", but did you guys get free registration and board or not?
I agree 100% with everything you said about picking and choosing-we take a long hard look at our schedule to set ourselves up for success as best we can. However, the issue people seem to have is that TG allegedly got special treatment that other teams did not.
I have zero doubt TG put out a routine that deserved the bid-it's TG. Duh. But, I'm old and lame and don't have much of a life outside of cheer and let's be honest-this is good gossip.
