agreed. my former coach is the attendance person for school, (not a teacher so she couldn't check our grades) and if we had a D than we "needed to stay home and study" instead of cheer at the basketball games. i'm a straight A student... but to be honest i stayed home and "studied" over half the games last year. only cheered at 6! heheheh. :p
OMG hahaha thats awesome!!! I was "sick" for about 5. and then helped "clean" for competitions while they went and cheered. Haaa I hate football.

God I love this thread. I'm sore from shimmying haha

I've had two (yes TWO) girls not come to practice bc they were afraid of rain. Not the thunder or lightning, just the rain. We live in Louisiana so it rains a LOT.

One actually had a drs excuse for it (psychiatrist) bc she would panic and have anxiety attacks and cower in the corner. The other one got over her fear pretty quickly once she realized how much she missed cheer more than she was afraid of the rain.

Thankfully they're both over it now. Hopefully.

So the other week was our first showcase ever. However, we had only been given 2 weeks notice to pull a routine together ... long story the gymnastics/trampoline gym that we are part of had a winter competition and decided 2 weeks before it would be a good idea for the cheerleaders to perform whilst the judges were totting up the scores. I agreed as we needed to perform and we had parts of a routine that we could pull together. Anyway back to the story ... I had made an extra 2 Sundays mandatory on top of our regular Wed/Fri training. This one girl (who has BAGS of potential but is so extremely lazy) came to me on the Friday and said she wouldn't be there on the Sunday as she had to do her Christmas shopping. :banghead: I very calmly and politely explained that if her booty wasn't there then not only was she out of the routine but so would some of her team mates be as I didn't have time to re-choreograph her out, I'd just have to take her group out all together. She had the whole of Saturday plus evenings when she wasn't training to go shopping, it's not like we train every night. Anyway she turned up and all was good.

That following Wednesday was a teachers strike day and most of the schools across the country were shut. After a day off I fully expected my whole squad there at 4:30 ready to go. No, not only was that girl not there, her two friends weren't either. :banghead: No one could get in touch with her or the other two, phone/text/BBM/FB you name it, no apology, no message, NADA. Friday comes and the three of them saunter into the gym and some of the other girls go a little crazy at them as it REALLY screwed up our training, but this girl basically just told them to shut up. When I had counted to 100, taken a deep breath and said a quick prayer for grace, I went over and politely enquired where the hell they had been. Her response...shopping for Christmas presents. THEY HAD BEEN OFF SCHOOL A WHOLE DAY!!!!!!!!!!! And the other two went as they were the other bases in the stunt group and they figured if they all weren't there they they all couldn't be kicked off. Oh my did they do some conditioning that day. They got pulled out of everything that they were not absolutely needed in. The girl lost her tumbling pass and her friend lost being point on the dance. I have now rechoreographed them into the back of everything - mess me about and see if you get away with it missy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Git er done!

My team's practice fell on Halloween this year and my coach didn't want to cancel because it was the week before our gym's showcase. Anyways, she told us that if anyone missed practice even if their mom emailed and said they were sick, they would get kicked off the team. She even shortened practice a half an hour. One girl's mom emailed the coach saying her daughter was in urgent care and he daughter proceeded to post picture of her out with her friends on Halloween.

In her defense...there are lots of things you go to the ER for that you know you'll be fine as soon as you leave. Migraines, asthma treatments etc. I don't always tell people why I'm there either (this thread is the reason - because I don't like people judging my reasoning for the things I do...such as "She went to the ER for a migraine?!?! Whatever...")

Or she could just be a big fat liar and just didn't want to go to practice... :p

True, but CheerKT said that the mom told her she was in the ER (which I assume was at that moment) and how would her mom know exactly what was wrong w/her to the extent she knew she'd be at practice the next day?

My mom was getting married, I was maid of honor....we planned her wedding JUST FINE around my practice time later that night. i hopped in the car, my aunt drove me the 45 minutes to my car pool, and we continued to drive another hour to practice. I made it on time and my mom wouldn't have planned it any other way. missing a practice right before showcase would be unheard of and unacceptable in my family, sorry we are dedicated.
My birthday also falls on a competition pretty much never fail just about every year....why would i want to spend my birthday anywhere else than with all my cheer people and performing? seriously, what could be better???

I could be mistaken, but I think there is a girl on SE who has never missed a practice and she's been w/CEA since she was little. Kudos to you for your dedication! I know there are some people who will say, "it's just cheerleading for god's sake", but I believe sometimes that those types of things are some of the very things that separate the good from the great (think elite/pro athlete versus an amateur).

I've had a teammate call our coach once practice had started saying she couldn't make it because the St. Patrick's Day parade had blocked all the ways out of town... Meanwhile her neighbor from 2 streets down aka me was sitting right in front of our coach.

There's been so many others that I can't even think of right now, it's killing me.

If it was Savannah GA I'd be willing to consider that a legit excuse (omg have any of you seen that place on St. Patrick's Day?!!),lol...but not in Massachusetts

One of the girls on my team is a MAJOR hypochondriac. i dislocated my elbow and tore some ligaments over the summer at tumbling, and then i got some weird thing in the socket that had to be drained... blah blah blah. anyways, i texted her because she wasn't at practice. she replied saying "i think that disease you had in your elbow was CONTAGIOUS. i'm going to the doctor right now to get tested and x-rayed. i didn't want to tell you to freak you out though." ... She was serious. No joke. I didn't know dislocating your elbow was a disease... am i missing something?
Yes, she's crazy

We just had a parent say that 2 weeks ago!!!! We scheduled an extra practice on a Saturday 9-11 and a mom called and said her cp has a b-day party that starts at 12...I asked why she couldn't be at practice when we get done before it starts and her response was "she needs to get dressed and get her hair done"!!!! I died....and the party was for her 3 year old cousin.....:-\

Yup, exact same with us! Or they have to go to Oma's 98th (or some ridiculous age) lol. And have to miss practice because it starts an hour after practice ends... Ridic.

If it's something you go to the ER for all the time. I go almost once a month for migraine treatments, because I need them through an IV (I'm pretty bad@$$, but even i can't give myself an IV). I don't know in advance or anything, but I've been enough times that I know when they're done I'll go home, sleep, and be good as new the next day. I believe asthma treatments are the same way.

Like I said, maybe the girl was just a liar. But I guess I just don't like this thread because there a lot of assumptions and I hate that. Obviously lots of them are lies...a lot of them I think maybe they just didn't feel like telling their cheer gym their life story.

I am sure everyone has heard the:
1) I have a lot of homework or I need to finish a project that is due tomorrow excuse.
2) I sent you an e-mail that wasn't going to be at practice. Too bad you sent the email an hour after practice started, but when we call your cell phone was turned off....how convenient..lol
