talked about it at practice today.... why didnt they just deny the bid at the comp and have it passed down to the next team? like a previous poster said, a lot of teams would die just to have one. If they knew they wouldnt go on an at large......?

they were probably just waiting till they got a paid to pass it down, because i know going on an at large was never really something that they wanted

I think it's smart & when I cheered on CA we went by the rule of no paid bid no worlds. Its easy for any team to get an at large bid, the caliber of worlds has gone down IMO. My first year at worlds we only competed on Sunday because we had a paid bid & the at large teams competed Saturday to try & make it to finals...that to me is what worlds should be about.

You cant pass it down. I think its great for them to have such a high standard, traveling to Dallas is almost as expensive so maybe they have a diff reason for not going. I feel bad for the kids on the team, but I'm pretty sure they knew going in whats expected.

im pretty sure all the kids going in this season knew that it was a paid or nothing trip, the livermore gym travels a lot during the regular season so the fees begin to add up and i know that its hard for some of the families with multiple kids enrolled to handle all the expenses

I'm sorry but gyms shouldn't do that's it's dum!! That's basically saying you suck and you dont deserve to go worlds just cause you got in at large and not a paid bid!!! I realize it's expensive but having a team nit going to worlds just cause there have in at large like have fundraisers do stuff to get that money!! Every team works hard to get paid but not every single team can get one on top of that I bet any kinda money if your team got in at large and could not get a paid bid you wouldnt be saying that!! That's a slap in the face to ALL athletes who put blood sweat and tears for nothing !!!!

I think that is the problem right there.. It is not your "right" to go to Worlds just because your on a level 5 team. You have to earn the right to attend, and many gyms have the same standard. I remember the year Spirit of Texas small senior 5 didn't attend and their team was incredible. It is the right of gym owners and coaches to do what is best for their program. Traveling from the West Coast is not cheap to attend Worlds, just for the experience.

I think, as long as the athletes know the standards, it's fair game.
It wouldn't be fair to let them think they were going on an at large bid and then take it away from them but from what I understand that's not whar happened here.

well its still stupid but yah your right its the owners and coachs decision not mine

USA is closed to regristration and wont let anyone sign up. This happened to us last year when we wanted to go to USA and they told us no, it was to late and there were 3 weeks till the competition. I think they do this because some people will run for the bids at the last minute.

We actually close registration because it helps us get properly organized for the event.

I believe that's what is happening again this year in small senior and small coed. At large bids compete Friday and then semi finals are Saturday, finals Sunday. I like that a LOT more than when it's not divided by bid.
