Not true. This has already happened a couple of times.

I heard about this instance last year... The guy I was quoting said it wouldn't happen, that they would just have to replace the girl...

as a matter of fact (just to clear things up) we are not ever going to that event producer. and to nullify any other arguments, the EP stated that they would prefer us to stay in the division and compete with a large deduction than go s1. they said that we would be the only one in our division and that they didnt want to hassle getting awards and banners for yet another division. we just did what the EP told us. We understand that using over age athletes is wrong, however, we told the event producer and did what they said. so please do not blame us, put the blame on the EP. it is an extremely small company and they are just getting started. we did not like the way they had things set up, and we will never ever go back to one of their events...
lets please just end this conversation.
thank you. :)

The thing is you said that you went to the EP and asked permission to have an athlete who is overage compete with your team. That puts your gym at fault as well as the EP for allowing it. Instead of putting an athlete who is overage on your team you should have went out there minus one athlete and scored just as well like you said you would have. Your gym's hands are not clean in this situation at all.

okay. i am extremely sorry on the behalf of my gym. it was a one time fluke, and like i said, the EP allowed it. I also said that we would never be going back to the producer ever again, and I know for a fact that all other EPs out there would never allow it. Therefore, we would have had to make the decision. We understand where everyone is coming, and it is never going to happen again. It was a stressful comp for us, and we never want that situation to ever happen again.

I would hope you wouldn't go back because the EP allows cheating..... not just that you didnt like how they set things up...

What I meant by "how things were set up," was the way they handled situations... I have never heard of a company not allowing someone to switch age divisions due to an injury! But I guess there is a first for everything. If anything, they should have told us to exhibition. But when we asked they said to stay in the division. WORST COMPETITION EVER. good thing it was a small event and not a big competition!

Hmmm...where to begin and what to say...

I do believe that those who cheat should be turned in b/c at the end of the day...rules are set in place for a reason...they might not all make sense or we might not all agree on them but we do all agree to abide by them.

I know of local gyms who have used ineligible athletes, one in particular almost habitually. One of the biggest problems one faces is proving that an athlete is ineligible. Some who cheat will go to lengths to cover up the fact that they've cheated and without sufficient proof to prove otherwise it just becomes a he said she said matter.

I think Jamfest's $200 is a little steep but I do understand why some companies charge to make claims against other programs...I've seen plenty of gyms get caught up in petty bickering and call other programs out b/c that child looks too old or that child is way too young. Making someone pay kind of separates those true claims from the false petty ones and if you're correct you do get your money back.

We are dealing with a similar issue currently! And nothing is really being done about it. Which sucks because we took the necessary steps to get it resolved!

I agree...turn them in....it's more prevalent than one likes to think and sad for our sport!
...Sometimes karma takes too much patience! :)

It's frustrating for our babies. They are a young mini 1 and work so hard, but who can compete with that?
We are a mini 1 team who also had this situation and went against another mini Level 1 that had several girls that were clearly more developed physically in many aspects and skill wise (and also then those girls competed on their gyms youth team)and they were utilizing these girls in aspects that made it even more obvious. They looked like junior coaches more than members of the team. They barely beat us the first time we saw them. Second time our coaches came prepared if they needed to challenge and we beat them even with their clearly over age girls. SO no challenge was required.... man it felt good that second time to beat them.

I hear you, nothing like beating that kind of competition. I do believe in karma :) our babies are just soooooo little. They're all at the bottom of the mini age bracket. They've come soooo far in the last few weeks though. They compete again next weekend after about 7 weeks off. They usually finish just into the top half of their competition, I think they're going to move. Our coaches not only got team back walkovers in the last 7 weeks but they're tumbling....together! That's amazing for a group of 6 year olds.

I have a local gym near me. Most their teams are not in my divisions. Last year they were under suspicion for having 10 and 11 yr olds on a mini team. Kids from my gym that went to school with the "over age kids" knew they were too old. But you can't prove age on a young kid. However this year....they have a youth age team with a 13 yr old on it. I know this because that kid also takes at my gym and I have their registration information. Should I throw them under the bus or let Karma do its job? I can not stand a cheater and want to blow the whistle but I don't want to ruin the last month of a season for the other kids on that team---(even if they aren't my kids) thoughts?
More cheating...oy vey. :(

I love watching minis and tinys. They're so precious! Good luck next weekend! See y'all there! :cheering:

OK, how about this example... Junior 2 team doesn't have the skills to be competitive in it's division and the kids don't enjoy their season because they never see the podium and other various reasons. Mid-season, they lose a kid and put a 16 year old with a backhandspring on the team. She is helpful in stunts, but ultimately, it serves no purpose, doesn't help their scores, and they still don't place well. What then? Would you report it if you knew, even if it didn't matter anyway and you knew you were going to beat them every time? Would you even want to know? Or does a team like this get away with it because they're not competitive anyway, so no one even gives it a second glance?

well i would HOPE it would be reported anyways. cheating is cheating, doesnt matter if you win or lose. I would be equally upset with either situation.
