All-Star 2011 Worlds Bids Vs 2012 Worlds Bids

I am still of the opinion that once Worlds starts, everyone should be on the exact same playing field. In other words, your gym's zip code, country of origin, uniform color, how far you flew to get there, and/or reputation should count for zilch.

There should NOT be a bye through the first round for paid bids. Your reward for getting a paid bid was the check that the event producer handed you. That is plenty.

There should NOT be quotas by country to determine finalists. The top scores should make finals regardless of where your gym is located. The 4th highest scoring team should go to finals ahead of the 50th highest scoring teams. This is particularly true because this a gym vs. gym competition and NOT a country vs. country one. If you want to represent your country, then get there early and do the ICU competition.

They should NOT keep trying to re-weight the score sheet to try to favor one set of countries over another. If you can't tumble well yet, then practice tumbling - don't beg to have the scoring changed to give yourself a shortcut. Worlds should be about who has the most talented, well-balanced team - not who has the most political pull.

If we are talking about wiping the slate clean then yes I agree with you. If we are talking about making the best of the current system I like it.

Oh I definitely don't agree w/changing, altering, or curving the score sheet to allow other countries to be more competitive at Worlds! How fair is that to our CPs that legitimately work hard to get to this point? Not fair at all!

World's isn't about everyone though. It is about an end of the year meeting of the best of the best. I think quite a few teams are already considering not going because of the AT Large in Small Small and Small Coed competing on Friday. I would say all At Large's have to compete on Friday next year.

No Worlds isn't for everybody it's for just level 5, lol! :p

So you're saying a team can't get better from the time they get thier bid until it's time to go to Worlds??? Perfect example...Tsunami! They don't start off strong, but they end strong! Look at F5, deemed a top team, but they had a helluva melt down at NCA!!! To go into another area, look at the NY Giants....who would have ever thought a 9-7 team would win the superbowl! They were not the best of the best teams in the NFL!

Cheerleading is a very subjective sport...what you deem as being a best team may not be of someone elses opinion! In addition, I can't imagine any organization having a level 5 team and not strategically placing thier team at competitions to get a bid to go to Worlds! I mean isn't that kind of the point/incentive of having a level 5 team??? As far as teams not going...how crazy is it to not go based on what someone else decides or what some one else is doing? It sounds to me like those teams don't have enough confidence to believe they can make it to semis!

We shouldn't be defining Worlds by an anomaly, though. Sure, a team can get better, but do we create a system assuming they'll get better, or do we create a system saying 'Here are your chances, hit or don't?' In a sunshine and roses world (also known as 'The Movies') the not-so-good team just has to BELIEVE and they win big or conquer world hunger or ask out the hottest girl in school. In real life, that's a MASSIVE chunk of change for some teams who have to go by on 'belief'. Or even more honestly, praying other teams mess up enough to make it in..and that's a HARD sell to make to some parents.

Yes, cheerleading IS subjective, but there is only so much subjectivity in 'This team is only throwing 2, under-rotated doubles. Their full-ups are shaky, and their 'team tumbling' is 10 girls with fulls and the other half tucks.' It's easy to be objective in realizing WHAT your team is throwing and comparing to what other people are throwing. In small senior, there are the 'Top Tier'- 5 or so teams that always do well unless they crumble at finals, and even then still make top 10. There are the more upper-middle pack teams, and then there is everybody else. If a middle-upper team crumbles and they STILL beat you when you hit, that's where my line gets drawn.

It's not assuming if a team come to Worlds and actually look and do better! You can't say for sure if a team will or will not get better! Furthermore, how do you know a team hasn't watered down the routine to hit the score sheet well enough to get a bid? I've seen teams in bid competitions do no more then 2-3 doubles, than come to worlds and throw 3-4 more! You can't say what a team is are capable of unless you are in thier gym!

Like I said this is a subjective sport, there are top teams out here that a lot of ppl on this board hype up that I think are bleh and can get away w/making mistakes and having an ok routine because of thier gyms reputation! BUT HEY.....THAT'S MY SUBJECTIVE OPINION!

Yeah its a big turn off, what if everyone, regardless of division who didnt place in the top 3 or 4 or 5 when they got their at large bid competed on Fri? I feel like there's a HUGE gap in someone placing 2nd and getting an AL and someone placing 25th or even 5th, 6th or 7th and still getting an AL.

Some of the comps that give bids at the end of season have such a low turn out, it would give teams a reason to still go by trying to place higher even when they know they cant get a paid bid.

Just curious, how many teams advance from the small all girl prelims and the small coed prelims?

For example, in small coed if they take 1/2 of those with atl that would be 27 teams plus the 20 teams that advance to semi automatically which is 47 teams in semi. Then if half go to finals that puts 23 in finals. Is this correct? That seems high.

From USASF:

NEW: Senior Club Divisions - Level 5: (Senior Small & Senior Small Coed)
For these two traditionally very large divisions; all At Large Bid competitors will compete first in a Preliminary Round. NEW: This round will begin early Friday morning, April 27, 2012 at a location TBD. NEW: The top 10 teams will move on to compete in the Semi-Final round on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports® Complex. The SemiFinal round will be comprised of the top 10 of the Preliminary teams, plus all of the Partial Paid and Paid bid teams that are registered in that division. NEW: The top 10 of the Semi-Final teams will move on to the Finals, which will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports® Complex. The Semi-Final performance order for all divisions will be reverse seeded based off Friday’s preliminary results and inserted in the first 10 open spots before the Partial Paid and Paid bid teams that move directly into the Semi-Finals. The performance order for finals will be reverse seeded based off the Semi-Final results.

got it. thanks! i love that they added only the top 10's advancing this year. while I may think too many AL bids are given out, it adds some prestige to the event without reducing the numbers. win-win IMO

Thanks! I knew I had seen something about it but couldn't find it when I was looking for it this morning!

After reading that what are they going to do with divisions like large senior that have less then 10. Will they skip prelims and just have everyone compete in semi just to compete? Also with the International Divisions they have worlds trial thing and then semi finals, what about divisions like the level 6 that probably won't have 10 teams from the US competing, will they skip the worlds trials like they did last year?

*I apologize if this is listed somewhere and I am just had a brain fart and missed it.

My post above only applies to Senior Small & Senior Small Coed.

All Other Senior Club Divisions - Level 5, (Senior Medium, Senior Medium
Coed, Senior Large and Senior Large Coed): All teams entering these divisions must compete in the Semi-Final round on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at ESPN Wide World of Sports® Complex. Yeah I definitely had a brain fart. Thanks for posting that. I guess since there are not 10 teams in Large Senior that their semi-final round will be pretty pointless and act more as a practice round.
