If anyone who lives/cheers around DC could take a break from the drama to help my family and me out I would really appreciate it!

My aunt is looking to move to the DC area, probably around Chevy Chase. She's asked me to find the best gyms to take my 10 year old cousin to cheer. My cousin solid in all of her level 2 tumbling skills and is working on her tuck so I would imagine she would be on a youth 2 for the upcoming season. My cousin isn't the most social kid and she's having a rough time with her parents' divorce. Cheer is a real outlet for her - it's helping her come out of her shell and make friends while escaping some of those issues at home so finding a gym that's going to be a good fit for her is really important.

However, my aunt wouldn't be willing to drive almost 2 hours to go Twisters. I know Marlins is about 40 minutes away, which is a little more reasonable, but where else in the area would be a good place for them to check out?

The closest program I know is a pretty new gym in Rockville called Shockwave Allstars - close to Chevy Chase though traffic can get rough. There are some gyms on the other side of D.C. in Northern VA but I'm not very familiar with that area.

Marlins & Twisters are only about 10 miles apart.

Chevy Chase is about 45 min from Twisters in Glen Burnie and 40 min from Elkridge where Marlins are.
It'd take quite a long time to get there in traffic to each location.. 95N is a pain, especially going out of DC on weekdays. It took me over an hour and a half to get home on Friday nights from the DC area and I live pretty close to Twisters.
I know Twisters is trying to get a feel for a NoVa gym. So that could be a closer drive depending on where it'd be located.
Crimson Heat would probably be about a 35 minute drive in the opposite direction.. not sure how traffic is in that area.
Is there anything in Olney? That'd be pretty close-ish.

Crimson Heat. Great program and their kids and parents are sweet as pie. -- Crimson Heat All Stars, Inc.

Whatever gym Dynasty/Vipers/Twisters turns into in VA will be a great place. Will most likely be located in Manassas and the owners/directors are amazing people that I have worked with. If you're interested in seeing a location in VA/DC area visit the Maryland Twisters website for more details.

Not sure how far it would be to the Northern VA Gyms. Infinity, in Merrifield/Fairfax,VA is just off the the beltway, so it would be fairly convenient to get there. It has a great family atmosphere. There is a new gym opening in Chantilly, VA called PHASE. You'd have to take the Dulles toll road out to it, but I think that will be an up and coming gym to keep a watch on.

Yes, I believe Shockwave Allstars would be the closest gym to you. We are a new gym, (just two years old), but a great place to cheer. You should check out all the gyms within driving distance and figure out what the best fit is for you. Shockwave, Infinity, Dream, etc.

If your aunt is moving to the Chevy Chase area..you would definitly want to tell her to stay on the maryland side when it comes to gyms..I have lived in that area all my life and getting in and out of maryland to travel into VA for a gym...she will be pulling her hair out because of traffic by the end of the week. I would definitly stay with gyms closer to the Rockville area where she can take back roads to and from the gym out of that area. Shockwave Allstars is a great gym..Lots of great energy among the kids and the coaches are wonderful as well as fair. www.shockwaveallstars.com.

Another vote for staying on the Maryland side (ridiculous traffic) and another vote for Shockwave Allstars in Rockville. We have been really happy there. After bouncing around for a few seasons, I think my girls finally found their "home."

I would agree with staying on the Maryland side as well, however I am not going to recommend any particular gym. I think she should visit them all for a class to see what the drive would be like to all of the places within 1 hour and how her daughter interacts with the tumbling/coaching staff at each gym and then make a decision.

She should also keep in mind that alot of people carpool and that can also be a viable option and thats a way to meet new kids in the program. For instance I believe that the families wo live in Montgomery County dont drive more than may be 3 or 4 times a month to Twisters.

Dream All stars is in Gaithersburg and would probably be the closest, if you're looking for proximity.

I agree with everyone on the Maryland side. Try out all the gyms - take visits. Just keep in mind the traffic situation. Even if a gym is 1o miles from you, that can equal up to an hour in traffic depending on the direction of the gym and traffic. There are so many gyms in the area that can fit different needs and styles. Crimson Heat, Twisters, Marlins, Fearless, Dream, etc. Good luck!!!!

No matter which direction you go, manuevering Chevy Chase/Bethesda in itself is going to be a challenge. If you go south, during rush hour silver spring and getting to the split will be your hang up literally all the way to the split! Going further north up 270 isn't that bad b/c of the HOV and those ppl drive like they are on the Daytona 500, lol. But if the weather is bad or there is an accident....OUCH!

I believe USA All Stars is still in Stafford County, VA also, if they wanted to go the NoVA route.

Great gyms in NOVA and I am from VA lived here my whole life. The closest VA one will be Infinity, but even that is not close (great program though). Stafford County is very very very far from Chevy Chase with evening rush hour you are talk well more than a 2 hour drive. Manassas/Chantilly gyms (Phase, CheerTyme, Maryland Twisters, Legacy) also bad traffic on 66 and much farther. There are good gyms in Maryland and I would stay there because seriously the traffic alone not taking in the distance makes it not worth the while.

Any gyms in Arlington, pref. near a metro stop? I'm living there this summer and I want to tumble.
