I agree. It was NOT binding.... But what they COULD DO, is the same thing they did at NCA College Nationals to Boys (Which is a WHOLE other issue) - If boys are in front and do a 'theatrical dance' or are really in the dance at all highlighted....You score VERY LOW. I know this from experience. I think its wrong to not allow the guys to be showcased in dance.... but again - that is a WHOLE other issue - but yet it is related.

Funny how they can control who dances where and how by adjusting the score sheets and giving more stringent guidelines to judges but that can't be done with unsafe tumbling. #priorities

EXACTLY! And of course.... its not 'A RULE' at NCA College Nationals.... Its just a 'GUIDELINE' that would SIGNIFICANTLY play a role in scoring....

This was posted in another thread.
Would this be considered to theatrical because as far as I can see, this guy loves what he is doing and has more passion and heart than the majority of the girls in all star cheer today. and who is to say that he needs to tone it down a bit. because that is wrong!

This made me smile. I think that's a little Matt Burnham. Lol! Let's not lose the entertainment aspect of the sport in the attempt to legitimize it in the eyes of outsiders.

Again, no fact behind it except I did hear that from a reliable source. But since people can't openly talk about it if they are on the board - I guess it will just remain a rumor. "
Are there no minutes to the USASF Board of Directors meetings??

I'm not a gym owner, so I'm not a member ... but shouldn't members be privy to meeting minutes of the board that governs them???

Contrary to what someone else said previously, in my eyes a removal of a specific phrase with no other statement regarding it is not admitting that something was wrong. It is just covering your butt in response to an outcry.

Admitting a wrongdoing is so much more than removing the offensive words. It is being accountable - accountability by those from whom the document originated.

also, everyone has a problem with boys flying. at our gym, we have a little boy who has a double full and an amazing athlete who is on higher level teams, plus he is a flyer! he is 10 years old and at most 60 pounds, hes a tiny boy! what do you expect him to do on any team besides like a tiny 1 where he could base! why would you not let hom be on a higher level team because he is little and only can fly. he earned his spot there and it doesnt matter if our center flyer is a boy or girl.

I was thinking about him as I read the issue about boys flying. He is an awesome flyer and amazing all-around cheerleader.

Cheer leading is about showmanship and in this sport there is a theatrical element to showmanship. I would hate to see this sport, which has been a home to many young men who happen to be gay, begin to set policies that make them feel unaccepted. Sad.

Im still so angry about this...I'm angry because this has absolutely nothing to do with safety, this has been on someones mind for a long time and finally let it out. You cant take that back to the Rules Committee, hate is hate.

I dont have a twitter can someone tweet Lady Gaga

We dont need an official Fierce Board Shirt, someone else can make them (I have no connections) "NOH8" Would be great! They just dont want us doing anything in front of the all Cameras, which is why we should

To me even if they apologize, I don't feel like it would ever change how they feel on the topic or it would of never of come up. People can apologize for hurting feelings but that does not mean an apology means they have changed their stance on the topic.

I said this before in another thread and I will say it again. I have a straight brother in the sport and I know how much BS he gets for being a male cheerleader outside the sport (at school, etc..) .. So when he goes to the gym or competitions he goes in knowing he wont get the same BS, but now this!? Now he along with all male cheerleaders have to deal with this crap from people in the industry too. Out of all of the things the USASF wrote up this was the one that made me the most mad. We are supposed to be a sport that sticks together and excepts all types of people, white, black, gay, straight, boy, girl .. It shouldn't matter. This was completely uncalled for and I am so happy to hear someone is taking a stand!!

thank you! and i know its so bad

I'm really disappointed a statement of apology has not been addressed. I was hoping the weekend would have bought some time to put out an apology in regards to the semantics and wording released with their Etiquette 'Guidelines' that came across discriminatory. The fact they originally deleted the said 'discriminatory' part shows that they realized it may have been a mistake.

I like that All Stars has blended cheerleading with performance more and more over time. I would hate to see the theatrical part taken away, male or female. It is part of the show, being comfortable on stage and performing is just as important as the skill sets. Having judged this past weekend, with all levels, I found myself thinking many times it would be nice if more kids looked comfortable on stage and not so nervous/worried. I don't think we should have a rule that limits expression on stage!

We went to competition this weekend and the single biggest show stopper was an approximately 12 year old male who redefined theatrical. He was AMAZING in dance and got the entire arena into that dance! That, my friends, is cheerLEADING! Wish I could remember the gym. All I remember is him!
