When we went to nationals I told all my teachers and on my attendence recording it was excused and was written down as "athletics" but it was for a high school team so they school was probabaly more okay with it.

I have issues with lying (my own) so I always say "out of town family event." We've been excused every time.

I alway emailed teachers, but when it came to notes I just said, please excuse my child for being absent on these days. I never explained why...at my cp's school, it was considered excused if a parent or doctor wrote a note. Personally, I believe that since she is my child, I decide what she does.

we get 11 absences per semester. and if you call in, well, your parent calls in then its exused and you have give a reason, my mom just says that were out of town..

wait, parents can actually get arrested for lying about why they didnt send their child to school ? or did I read that wrong ?

You can be arrested if your child is not attending school, based on truancy laws. It rarely happens, exceptions are made if your child is officially schooled from home (because they are technically at school). I doubt there are truancy laws that apply to a few falsified occurances, it tends to cover excessive absences...

Our district has block scheduling and is very strict. We are only allowed 6 missed days per semester or you get no credit for the entire course. Our attendance administrator lives across the street so there is no way I can make anything up. She knows all that goes on in the neighborhood. My cp missed 4 days this semester for cheer. She came home from one comp very sick but HAD to go to school. I truly wish she did not have to miss because she has all honors & AP classes and the teachers will not give her work in advance. I'd be happy to travel to drivable comps instead of those where we have to travel/fly Friday-Monday. If she were ever on a worlds team it would really be a challenge.

Luckies..My parents never, ever let us miss school for a competition. We were always the last people to get to the hotel for a comp that was out of town. We didn't even get to stay an extra day after worlds..lol

at my school we're allowed 15 excused absences a semester but if you go over that you are placed on credit review and could possibly lose credit for the class if your attendance doesn't improve... basically you're being watched by the attendance office. I'm at 12 right now but I'm missing a few days for worlds so when I get back I'm going to be on credit review for every class.

When the aged out oldest was still competing we did a lot of driving back home after awards because she was trying to be exempt from exams. (Not missing more than 5 days a semester I think it was)

Now, we are doing the same song and dance for middle bit as she is trying to be exempt from exams.

Little bit is home schooled now but back when she was still in school I sent a lot of notes that said........Please excuse little bit from school on (insert day here). She was extremely sick. Yes, I used extreme in the note because in my mind it somehow made it slightly more true. HAHAHAHA

my school doesnt really care how many, as long as you call it every absense within 3 days or it turns into a truancy. more than 15 truancies (this is per period not days) and you have to appear in court. ahah i feel like i never go to school i think last year i had over 30 absenses in 1 semester :p

i lost credit my senior year between competitions and knee surgery lol... my parents appealed it though so it was fine and I graduated
