I see a lot of team offer tumbling clinics the week before tryouts. Do you find these to be helpful and/or necessary? Does anyone improve skill level through a couple of clinics in time to move up a level before tryouts, or is that unrealistic?

Thanks for the feedback. My cp struggled all season trying to get her bwo, and was hoping to get it during tumbling clinic. She was the only one on her team last season who did not get it, and it is making her feel defeated already before tryouts. I was hoping for a miracle:)

And if nothing else keep you in shape. Taking even a couple weeks off can cause setbacks.

We offer open gyms and tumbling clinics the weeks leading to tryouts and the week before we see a big burst of kids. It usually helps in the confidence for the skills you already have and are trying to clean or the skills that are almost there. Very rarely will you see kids come in and get completely new skills in that week but it's possible.

We offer a month of tumbling clinics... typically it pushes kids to get the skills they were very close to, mostly because they want to show off in front of all the new faces :)

It will also show the coaches and owners that she is serious about getting her skills and that could benefit her during tryouts =), goodluck to your little one! Once she gets that back walkover she will be on her way! =)

Tumbling clinics definitely help polish skills or help those that are extremely close to a skill. While a kid might learn a whole new skill, they certainly won't learn to do it by themselves right away (for example, a back handspring).

However, tumbling clinics seem to give a lot of kids excitement or a renewed passion for tumbling. Especially when a new coach is brought to the gym!

FAME offers open gym every friday all season long, they also offer tumble clinics on weekends and spring break. When you register you get the entire month of May of tumbling every day or stunt classes...it's awesome. My cp goes to clean up skills she already has or if she's REALLY close to a skill she will work on that. I have a feeling I will get sick of the gym in May lol. She's really pushing for her 2 to full and cleaning up her jumps to tuck...I'm glad they offer all of this and I do think it makes a HUGE difference.

took the words out of my mouth, i think tumbling clinics are less about kids picking up new skills (let's face it unless you're on the verge one week of clinics will not suddenly produce a new skill) and more about the coaches seeing who's dedicated and wants to WORK versus who is just going to walk in the door at try outs and expect a team placement.

tell me about it. we've been basically going two-a-days this week (its spring break) and it's nothing but tumbling and conditioning. My son actually has three today, a private, tumbling practice and his regular team practice (which will be tumbling and conditioning since half the team is out of town).

I think clinics are good especially if you are new to the gym. This gives you (or your CP) the opportunity to work with the coaches and for them to get a feel for your skill set in a non-tryout environment. Also good for making sure that you are comfortable with the staff and the overall environment of the gym.
