A Backwalk over is more of a flexibility skill rather than a "talent" skill, if she does not have her splits and proper back and shoulder flexibility, BWO's will be hard for her! I suggest you have her sit in the splits a lot, you should see a big improvement in her back walk over! Also make sure she is working her opposite back walk over! A TRUE level 1 athlete should be able to Front walk over cart wheel back walk over all connected! Most students I have seen like to do their "GOOD" leg back walk over.... well when you do you "GOOD" leg cart wheel you CAN NOT connect it to the back walk over you have been throwing.... I always try to teach the opposite back walk over leg as it sets the student up for SUCCESS!!!

What type of exercises/conditioning will help with shoulder flexibility? I have been having her work on her core because I know she needs core strength as well, but could use some suggestions for other conditioning methods. Thx.

Ok for shoulder flexibility, I would have her push up to a bridge and push her body weight over her shoulders! Another drill would be to have her stand with her back against a wall, take about a step away from the wall, put arms up by her ears and have her look up and back at the wall. Put both hands on the wall and walk down the wall. She should end up in a bridge with her hands on the ground and her shoulders close to the wall. Have her try to put her shoulders against the wall! That is a good judge of shoulder flexibility!

Cool. The wall exercise I have been having her do after watching a you tube video, so it is good to know I am on the right track.
