I think that after the first year all the talk about it sort of died down. This year all girl is coached by Tony Nash and Misty Hodges so it I can imagine the routine is going to look great coming from those two. It is weird though that they are having practices down in Orlando when they could have used Gym Tyme since Bloomington and Louisville aren't that far apart.

I don't remember much about coed. What is odd is that they are down in Orlando until the competition so those athletes who are in school are missing the last 2 weeks of classes before finals.

Again, this is no different from last year. Last year they practiced at Great Wolf Lodge in Texas for two weeks then headed to Orlando. They just eliminated the two weeks in Texas and opted for one and half weeks in Orlando.

The kids come from all different schools. I remember reading last year - trying to go off my memory.. (dont quote me though please lol) that they learn the routine right before the competition - it was the same last year I believe? like 2 weeks before. I think they were in Dallas? last year. But the timing of it for those athletes in college has to conflict with preparing for finals - missing that much class.. I would only guess some type of arrangement is made since they are representing the USA in an International type competition? help? :)

I am all for cost cutting and for efficiency, but I think it is the perception that the financial backing for Team USA is dwindling is a bit disturbing.

Team USA was supposed to be a precursor to an Olympic Team. Since the talk about including cheer in the Olympics has died down considerably, Team USA will not receive as much attention.

Add to the equation the fact that the USA is far and away the best team on the mat with no real competition, it tends to make the "contest" less exciting. I will say that it has been an honor for my daughter to feel like she is representing her country though.

Where would the money come from? Where does Team USA get its money? I honestly don't know. But I will say that the members had to raise considerably less than what the actual costs were. They flew basically everyone to Orlando, put them up in hotels, feed and transport them too. That's a lot of money in addition to the salaries they have to pay to the coaches.

What are the requirements to make either Team USA Coed or All Girl? I've always wanted to know.

I can't speak for all but many on the Co-ed squad have graduated already, so school is not an issue for them. But jobs are! If they work, they have to be off of work. If they are students, they have to be out of school. Either way, time off from real life is an issue no matter who you are!

I know 2 on the all girl squad are former team - mates of my daughter, and go to HPU. So, I assume there may be at least a couple more in school - so I guess they made some arrangements that worked out for them :)

I assume they may have changes to the team because of people that are competing in international divisions on friday at the same time ICU is going on.

How it worked in 2010 is soon after tryouts we got letters to take to our professors explaining what we were chosen for and when we would be missing. While we were up in Georgia we had to do a few hours of study hall to make sure we stayed on top of school work. Its still hard depending on the types of classes you take and your professors.
We also raised money through sponsorships, many gyms are willing to sponsor you cause that helps their reputation on bringing kids in, saying they have a coach that was on team USA.
USA cheer does a really good job helping you out pay for it and also deal with missing school.
btw I heard that the routines are already looking amazing, so hope the hype comes back up for them!

I was going to say some of the girls and guys from gymtyme are on the team how is that going to work for the international division

Those athletes are down in Orlando practicing so I guess something has been worked out. It probably helps that Misty is the all girl coach and those gym tyme athletes are on all girl. I would guess that Pink and Black's competition times give room for them to continue with team USA.
