We've had several new athletes come from another gym and they're almost all doing one handed tumbling (FWO, BHS,for the most part). I remember competing against their mini 1 team several years ago and there were lots of 1 handed FWO and BWOs.
Does this really affect the difficulty score much?
What is the purpose of one handed tumbling?
Where in the skill progression does it typically fall? I.e. learn BWO, BHS, tuck...then one hand, or is it taught immediately after the two handed same skill is mastered?

I'm actually really curious too. No one's ever going to do a one handed RO BHS full, so is it really necessary/safe to learn?. And if people actually did start doing one handed tumbling, USASF would have a fit.

...but if there is someone who does advanced tumbling with one hand I wanna know about it! I'm getting shoulder surgery and not tumbling for six months will be the death of me XD

Well, the girl on my CP's team who does this has advanced tumbling. She's 10. Her pass that will most likely be in the routine is punch front step out RO (one handed) BHS BHS whip (one handed) BHS layout step out. She also Has a full, I believe, but I don't know if she throws it with one handed BHS.

I have a punch front step out RO BHS BHS(one hand) BHS(other hand) to full. Although I've never thrown it at my cheer gym because i never thought it was that special, but maybe i will now :)

WHAT how is that possible?! Video please? XD

My sophomore year of high school (6 years ago ) one of our girls competed some sort of ro-hs-full combo pass with one handed handsprings. If anyone has the Jamfest Indy small senior 5 video from 2006, it's on there.

I went to a tumbling and acrobatics studio instead of a normal gymnastics gym growing up... We learned a lot of tricks one handed - mainly because we were also learning acrobatics ;)

I definitely learned how to do FWO with both arms, and then each arm on its own. After that we learned an ariel FWO (no handed). I would say its a progression - learn with both, then one, then the other and then none.

We learned to do cartwheels on both sides and then one handed, opposite hand and no handed. Same with RO.

I can't remember learning BHS and above one handed... but it's been a while! :)

I instructed at woodward last summer and there was a very talented power tumbler who through double fulls, double backs/layouts and everything else using only one hand because of a severe injury to her other hand.. there are several people who ive met the past few years that tumble with one hand

I would think you would overwork that one arm, causing some sort of injury IMO or you will have one very muscular arms and the other well.....LOL :)

Just wanted to mention that one handed tumbling is not allowed in level 1 (unless the rules update changes that for some reason). The rule is "Tumbling skills must involve hand support with both hands when passing through the inverted position."

I wonder if this was the case, too, in the years 2008-2009, because I'm certain a local team hand mini 1s with one handed walkovers.

I actually happen to have a copy of the 2008 rules on my computer and that rule was in there.

It can come in handy when you're in a sling!
