My cp lands hard when she tumbles. She sometimes complains of heel pain (like bruising) I've seen girls at the gym with black lace up ankle braces that my daughter told me were heel cups. Do these go over the heel cups to hold them in place????? What kind of heel cups do most people use and do they help????thanks

First tell her to tumble on her toes, 2nd when tumbling on concrete when I was young and very dumb I would sometimes have the need to use those gel cups to protect me heels!

Just got to Walgreens and buy the gel cups that go in the shoe. Put them in the back by the heel, works like a charm!

How old is she? My CP had this around age 10. Turned out to be Sever's Disease. Not really a disease but more like a crack in the plate of the heel plate which hasn't finished growing. It is common in cheerleading, gymnastics and soccer - sports which have a lot of repetitive pounding on the feet. You can get a heel cup from anywhere but if that is what it is, an orthopaedist gave us a prescription heel cup that helped more. And he told her to take a Dixie Cup, freeze water in it and rub on the heel after tumbling. It can get so bad that you need a break but the ice and heel cups helped a lot.

I use gel heel cups for the gym....and it worked...my heel stopped hurting...I bought them in Modells by the sneakers....it could also be plantars fasciitis...good luck!

Too funny...just bought some heel cups for my CP at Walgrens yesterday and she used them last night at practice. She has planter facisitis and recently switched to the Vengeance shoe and has been complaining of ankle pain. So in attempt to salvage my $80 for the shoes I tried the heel cup as others on FB suggested. She said...

She did notice too much difference but her ankles didn't hurt "as much".
The heel cup slipped in the shoe and bunched up a bit, which are "really annoying". Dr. Scholls Pro Gell Heel Cup.

Good Luck!

PS. I would avoid the Nfinity Vengeance if you are having any feet/ankle issues. There is not a lot of support or cushioning. It would be a great shoe if your CP is the kind that learns their tumbling barefoot.

Try Tuli's heel cups. Order them from a gymnastics website. I bought them for my CP and they worked wonders for years. I could not get her out of them.

Did the same thing. Gel heel inserts under the insert in the shoe. Stopped the complaining dead and now she's working on landing correctly so it's not an issue in the first place.

I found wearing a thicker sock helped to keep the gel cup from bunching up and also made it so I couldn't even tell they were there.

My cp bruised her heel bone tumbling on concrete about a year ago right before tryouts :banghead: She was lucky and it wasnt as bad as it could have been but they told us to get her gel inserts until it heeled so we did. They really helped and now she listens and doesnt tumble on concrete. We just got them at CVS or Walgreens, something like that but I have seen some of the lace up ankle braces that have a gel cushion in the heel. Not sure if thats what others wear but I did notice it when we were looking.

My CP's Tuli's should be here this afternoon. We tried the gel inserts but they move around and didn't fit well for my CP because she is young and has a narrow foot. I am praying that the Tuli's Cheetah does the trick. From everything I have read, and also through conversation with other cheer parents it is very common. It all started when my CP started running tucks.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to give them a try. She's 11 and tumbles 4-5 nights a week and is working layouts and punch fronts so she's putting a lot of pounding on them.. (She lands and the earth shakes) She's also flat footed so finding the right shoes is tough. Evolutions killed her....the Phoenix has a pretty good arch and has worked well. Does anyone know what the black lace up ankle support is that I THINK they are using to keep the gel cups in place??

Ahhh...the dreaded heel pain. I am pretty sure my daughter has Severs as it comes and goes with her growth spurts. I bought her the cork like slanted heel inserts from a foot store to help relieve the stress on her achiles. It has worked really well this past season. This is the time of year that her heel pain acts up, so hopefully these inserts helps with the problem.

My CP just tried on the Cheetah and hates it. I got the fitted so it is hard to get on. Hopefully she'll change her mind before practice tonight.

We use the generic CVS brand gel heel cups for my CPs heel pain due to Severs. They are cheap and work great.
