one of our flyers has a problem and id like to get some tips for her to solve her problem.

when she goes up into her extension lib, each time when she needs to pull up her legg, no matter if its for just a plain lib or heelstretch,...she always bends the leg she's standing on which leads to loosing balance.

its like if she thinks "im so high i need to bend my legg to be able to reach the other one"

she knows she needs to keep her leg straight and we keep yelling it and she does get it straight, than reaches for her other leg again and bends again. never ending story.

when she does it on the floor, she does it without a problem, only in the air she bends.

Just a thought I had after reading this... could it be when she was at prep level, she felt someone holding onto her thigh and then would stay tight but when she is in the extended position she is almost arfaid. It seems like she is afraid to fly or afraid of heights and the prep level was just enough.

Have you tried ground up libs? I would give them a try and see if she can do her job as a flyer...from a coaching perspective if she is given the correction, knows what she is doing wrong, and doesn't fix it...I would not keep putting her in the air. She has to do her job and fix the problem...nobody can fix a bent leg but her... not to mention its not safe to have a noodle in the air.

Yeah, she may just be scared and need experience! Keep yelling, it'll work eventually ;)
But if she can do a regular lib fine, then it sounds like she's not strong enough to pull her leg to her. I'd tell her to focus on pulling her rib cage up to the ceiling and have her do some ab workouts. That will help her stay controlled in all stunts and make it easier to pull her heel stretch. Also, make sure she's not swinging it up when she shows you on the ground.

I don't want to hijack the thread so please tell me if it's wrong to ask the question here, but I'm having the same problem but with pulling my scorp.

I can do it just fine at prep level in group or partner, and feel okay doing it in a group extended, but can't seem to do it at all partner/co ed stunting style! My leg I'm standing on shakes uncontrollably.

Any tips would be appreciated (PM me if this thread is just regarding lib) :)

I would suggest leg strengthening. Having the strength maintain a straight base leg in extension is much greater than on the ground. Squats, lunges, and the many variations of this type of exercise could really help her.

It might just be mental. I recently witnessed a handful of level 3 flyers fall apart when they had to do an opposite lib. Nothing to do with not being capable, but in their heads they all thought it was the hardest thing ever, so they set themselves up for failure.

auscheerflyer I think you just had a crisis of confidence ;) I bet if someone had a fingertip on your ankle you would have pulled it. The more you try, the easier it gets. I promise.

Ohh I've seen the same thing in pyramids when girls have to pull lines on the opposite leg - total chaos!

Thanks for the tips BowCat I definitely had a MAJOR confidence crisis the other night! :( I'm glad to hear it gets easier to more you try :D
Flying is very mental (just like tumbling for sure)

I can't wait to try again, to silence that little voice in my head that says 'you can't do this' and is constantly setting me up to fail :)
