Just starting 50 shades of Grey.

The last book I read was A Time To Kill by John Grisham. I only read it because we were watching the movie in gov and I misses the last day and wanted to know how it ended. But watch the movie; Mathew McConaughey looks so good it in. Love me some Jake Brigance!!!

If you like Mean Girls then you will probably like the She Is So Dead to us series by Kieran Scott.

spiritmama I don't want you to feel like I am passive aggressively accusing you of trying to force a book on me because I realize it may read that way and its definitely not my intent. I have a masters in library science...books and libraries are my life and my career so yeah... I hope you arent offended

Not at all :) I totally understand, no worries!! There are lots of different series that are not up my alley either! :)

About 175 pages into 50 Shades of Grey and all I can think about is Twilight!

I literally was just going to come here to start this thread! we need a FB Book Club!.

I am totally for this idea!

I absolutely LOVE to read, but only really get to do it in the summer thanks to school owning my brain the rest of the year :banghead: so i have already been taking complete advantage of my kindle the last couple weeks and reading like crazy. This week I started the Hunger Games, read the first book in 2 days, and read the second one yesterday. Does anyone have Mockingjay that they would be willing to loan me on my kindle? I was loaning back and forth with someone but they only have the first two...
I am typically the Kristin Hannah, Jodi Picoult, Nicholas Sparks book lover, but the Hunger Games have totally sucked me in!!!!

just finished the 50 shades of grey trilogy.

let me just start this mini rant. i hate that every book that comes out is compared to twilight. i like twilight i like it a lot actually but it is not the best book ever written and people who compare it to every single book are annoying.

back to 50 shades, yes there are a few similarities to twilight, but not enough for me to think there even remotely close. i have read the entire twilight saga at least 10 times (no exaggeration) 50 shades was written very well, pulled me into the story and i didnt want to put it down.

50 Shades was Twilight fan-fiction written in an alternate universe with no supernatural stuff. Anastasia was originally called Bella and Christian was Edward. And other characters had different names. She was able to get the books published and then changed the names. That's why the comparison happens. Because it was based on Twlight!

OMG thank you! Every time people compare the two I just think "huh???". Yes I read someone's explanation and it was a stretch. There are so many stories where the male is controlling, the female is strong and desirable but doesn't realize it, and there is an annoying but livable side kick. The story lines are not alike, even when you discount the whole vampire/human thing. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who sees that.

She may have started it that way, but the published pieces are not similar to Twilight. Character names do not a story make.

She didn't just start it that way. All 3 books were written as fan-fiction, they were finished, on some site (fanfiction.net maybe) called "Center of the Universe". She took the stories down, changed the names, and got them published. Or got an offer to publish them, took them down, and changed the names. I'm not sure of the exact order. But the only changes are literally the character names.

The books were only twilight related originally in the sense that they had the same names and personalities and it was about Edward and Bella falling in love. There were no Vampires or Warewolves, it was called Alterate Universe fanfiction.

But that's obviously why they're compared, because that's the story behind the books.

I take that back, it was originally called "Master of the Universe" not "Center of the Universe"

Master of the Universe versus Fifty Shades by E.L James Comparison

So anyway, well, yeah, that's exactly why they're compared.

The plots aren't similar, I agree. But I could see some of the characters - definitely Anastasia/Bella.
