Seniors should be put on JV?

At my school we don't have a JV team. There was a girl on our team the last 3 years and she tried out this year and didn't make it her senior year.. IMO if you are a senior you should be put on varsity, or if you've been on varsity and you're a senior you should make it no matter what. This girl was a killer backspot and didn't make it because she wasn't as stong in other areas... So not fair.

This year at my school they changed it back so that Seniors could be one JV. One senior (out of two) made JV and I believe she quit already. She had been on Varsity for two years but her skills have been decreasing every year and is no longer at a Varsity skill level.

I don't like seniors on JV for games, I think it is utterly humiliating to cheer for boys that are primarily 2-3 years younger, HOWEVER, I have no problem what-so-ever with a senior competing on JV. If she doesn't have the competition skills, then she shouldn't just be given a spot.

I said to her if she wants to compete she has to put in the extra work and compete w/ JV!

Thanks for your support. :) In Illinois I think its not allowed for competition season to have seniors on JV, but otherwise its fair game.
In New Jersey, Seniors are not allowed to cheer on JV, but this is only for States. They can cheer on JV for all other competitions.

In NY Seniors aren't allowed on JV in any sport and we're limited in our number of years of participation on Varsity.

Our coach did weighted score if that makes sense. There was four categories: dance, jumps, tumbling and stunting. Instead of each of them being 25%, she would make your best 3, 30% and your worst one 10% and then would compare scores. Cheerleaders tend to have strengths and she would rather fix your weaknesses than not give you the opportunity.

I think that if a team wants to be competitive, and there are younger girls who have better skill level than the seniors, than they have to be put on varsity, otherwise the overall skill level of the team will go down.

In Pennsylvania, there are no rules about seniors on JV and what not.

The only senior that made JV this year at my school quit already. She had been on varsity for the past two years and her skill level was decreasing and not just in one category. I think that no matter what age you should be on the team that fits your skill level, otherwise you're holding the team back.

At my school the coaches just started to put seniors who do not have varsity requirements on JV. Before the rule was, as soon as you were a junior you were put on varsity, regardless of skill. But, its not as simple as that, you get not only scored on your tumbling, but on your stunting, jumps, tryout dance, tryout motions, and splits. They said that varsity requirements are standing tuck and round off tuck and roundoff flip flop, or round off flip flop tuck. The thing is, I am a senior, I have my standing tuck and round off flip flop tuck, and they told me I was going to be on JV. Their reasons were "your motion technique needs work", should seniors be held on a lower squad for a reason as simple as that? Im not saying my coaches are wrong, I just want to know what others think if it. For the sake of privacy I will not release the school's name, I am just posting this to see what everyone here thinks.

WHAT?! That's rediculous! You should deffinetly be on varsity. Where I come from seniors weren't allowed to be on JV. For example, there were two girls that had been on JV since their freshman year (one made varsity her sophomore year but was back on JV her junior year) and they didnt meet the varsity requirements their senior year so they weren't put on a team. I thought it was a rule that seniors couldn't be on JV.

At our school we have a tryout to make senior you make Varsity. Now don't get me wrong, our school has absolutely no care for the cheerleading squads in our town (its all about football and basketball ) and there is no tumbling requirement but I mean a senior with no skill at all can make Varsity (I've seen it happen ). But with our school, if our coaches see you improve over the summer they will bump you up to Varsity from JV :)

Wait let me specify, this is the football season squad assignments, which do not roll over into competition.

This is the varsity requirement sheet they gave us.

First of all, holy cow that looks like a crazy tryout requirement sheet! But I do see where your coach is coming from. Just because you have good tumbling doesn't mean that you should be on varsity; tumbling isn't the only thing on the scoresheet:p I don't think that seniors should be treated any differently than any freshman, sophomores, or juniors, even if they do have great tumbling. Could there have been any other reasons why they put you on JV besides motions?

At my school only freshmen and sophomores can be on JV. Freshmen can not be on varsity. However, if there are sophomores that are better than the juniors and seniors then the juniors and seniors don't make anything and the sophomores make varsity. This happened my sophomore year. There were only five seniors the year before, so if everyone that was on varsity made it again that would only leave five open spots. However, 13 sophomores made varsity, and took the spots of many juniors and seniors who were on it the year before.

At my school seniors are not allowed to be on JV. It's Varsity or nothing. I like this rule because Varsity's skill level is going up because now there are more girls to feed in to Varsity. If there is a senior that seems like she genuinely loves cheer and is okay with being on JV, I think she could cheer, but would not compete.

I don't think seniors should be favored. There were originally 12 girls on competition and 8 alternates, with 14 spots available for competition. we were told that the alternates improvement and attitude at practice would decide who got the last 2 spots. however, when someone asked her "what do i have to do to get one of those spots?" she said "if anyone gets it it's going to a senior". so now we have two seniors who are not up to par with the rest of us, mocking backhandsprings and standing behind stunts, just because they're seniors, when alternates have back tucks.
also, i know motions can be fixed, but i've put up with lots of girls who had amazing tumbling and their motions never got fixed. every situation is different but i really don't think people should make it because of seniority or one skill. a team should be made up of all around tumblers
