Recruiting is fine but once it hits to a certain point, it's bad.

There were two gyms close by to me in the same general area and gym X was ALWAYS rude to gym Y. Gym X went and told all of gym Y's girls that if they joined Gym X, they could all get free tuition. So now Gym Y has like two girls and their program is failing. So horrible.

if gym X is giving away free tuition, they're probably failing too...

I would no be happy if my child was approached by another adult to recruit her. I would not allow my child to leave to that gym I don't care what they promise. If I am unhappy with my childs gym I will look around and find the best fit. I am very loyal though I cheered at the same program my entire career (13 yrs) and would love for my daughter to do the same.

My 2 cents....I think once teams are formed, and the season has officially started, coaches/gym owners should back off the recruiting. Invite them to tryouts for the next season.

Now there are circumstances that may cause athletes to look elsewhere once the season has started. In this case, it's fair game. Current gym isn't doing what they should be doing to keep that current athlete happy.

Now don't get me wrong, you have those gym hoppers who don't like their placement whether it be team, position on the team, etc...who will look for greener grass and will shop around until they can find what they want. Those type of athletes already have the title gym hopper so coaches aren't surprised if they stay around a season and then move on.

We were faced with this situation quite a few years ago. The only other gym that my oldest CP had ever cheered for. We were afraid to make the move just because you get comfortable. We left because of the owner!! It had NOTHING to do with the coaches. We left right before choreography camp and while we felt bad for doing so, both CP and I couldn't take the owner any longer. We found our new home and have been there ever since. So it's not always a situation of 'recruiting', sometimes ppl are just not happy in their current situations.
